Position Summary:
The Composite Mechanic is responsible for performing structural repairs and maintenance in an FAA-approved Repair Station environment. Working closely with engineering and quality control, this role requires expertise in repairing and fabricating composite and metal aircraft components in compliance with repair manuals, technical documents, and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical proficiency in composite structural repairs, with experience on Boeing 787 Dreamliner preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform repairs, maintenance, and overhauls on a wide range of composite and metal aircraft parts and assemblies following FAA-approved structural repair manuals, component maintenance manuals, aircraft maintenance manuals, and other authorized repair instructions.
Apply technical expertise in fabricating, reworking, and repairing non-metallic parts using knowledge of composite materials and bonding techniques.
Utilize electronic media and CAD/CAM tools to interpret engineering work instructions, model-based definitions, specifications, MRB dispositions, and requirements documents to ensure repair compliance with engineering intent.
Verify part dimensions using precision mechanical and electronic measurement tools; perform first article inspections as required.
Capture, translate, and validate measurement data to meet engineering specifications and top-level requirements.
Maintain required personal certifications and comply with FAA Anti-Drug and Alcohol program requirements, including random testing for safety-sensitive work.
Perform thorough inspections of procured or fabricated parts and assemblies, including first part reviews.
Document non-conforming conditions and initiate Material Review Board (MRB) actions as necessary.
Conduct process surveillance to ensure adherence to quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Prepare and maintain accurate quality records and documentation.
Collaborate with engineering and other disciplines to develop materials, processes, and specifications for composite fabrication, repair, and rework.
Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally on short notice for extended periods to support airline maintenance requirements.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in Aircraft on Ground (AOG) composite repairs.
Strong focus on Composite Repair (not composite layup).
Structural Composite Repair Certification (e.g., TR009348).
Experience with Boeing 787 Dreamliner structural composites preferred.
Proficiency in CAD/CAM tools or similar software to support fabrication and repair work.
Ability to work from various technical documents, repair manuals, drawings, and specifications.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety standards.
Must successfully pass initial FAA screening to work in the repair station.
Compliance with FAA regulations and safety protocols.
Ability to work well within a team and independently under tight deadlines.
Physical & Other Requirements:
Must be able to travel both domestically and internationally on short notice.
Must comply with FAA Anti-Drug and Alcohol testing program.
Ability to multi-task and operate multiple machines and tools simultaneously.
