Position Summary:
Abacus Staffing is seeking a Senior Rework Technician / IPC Trainer is responsible for performing advanced electronic and mechanical rework on products, ensuring compliance with IPC standards, and leading training programs to certify and upskill staff in rework and soldering techniques. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, precision, and the ability to train and mentor team members while supporting warehouse production and quality goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical & Rework Duties
Perform complex rework, repair, and modification of printed circuit boards (PCBs), wiring harnesses, and other electronic assemblies per IPC standards (e.g., IPC-7711/7721, IPC-A-610).
Diagnose defects, troubleshoot assemblies, and implement corrective actions in collaboration with quality assurance.
Operate soldering stations, heat guns, reflow ovens, and other hand tools safely and effectively.
Handle ESD-sensitive components according to proper ESD handling procedures.
Maintain detailed documentation of repairs and modifications for quality and compliance purposes.
Training & IPC Certification
Conduct IPC-certified training programs for employees, including soldering, rework, and inspection practices.
Administer certification and recertification tests for IPC standards compliance.
Develop training materials, guides, and visual aids to improve technical skills across the team.
Mentor junior technicians to develop consistent, high-quality workmanship.
Warehouse & Production Support
Coordinate with warehouse staff to prioritize rework tasks to meet shipping schedules and customer requirements.
Monitor inventory of rework tools, supplies, and training materials; submit requisitions as needed.
Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce rework rates and improve first-pass yield.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate or associate degree preferred.
IPC Certified Trainer (CIT) or IPC Certified Specialist (CIS) with ability to train and certify others.
5+ years of experience in electronics rework, soldering, or assembly, preferably in a warehouse or production environment.
Strong understanding of IPC-A-610, IPC-7711/7721 standards, and ESD safety.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
Excellent communication and training skills; ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
Manual dexterity to perform precision work on small components.
Lift up to 25 lbs. as needed.
1st Shift: 7:00 Am to 3:30 PM Monday to Friday with OT on Saturdays
Payrate: $30.00-$35.00/hour depending on experience
