JOB SUMMARY
RESPONSIBLE FOR FOOD SAFETY. The QA Technician supports and monitors food safety, quality, sanitation, warehouse, and laboratory testing activities in compliance with SQF, FSMA, FDA, Health Department, Certification Bodies (Organic, Kosher, Non-GMO, Vegan, OSHA, ect.) regulations, and customer requirements. This role is key to maintaining a safe, hygienic, and compliant facility by performing inspections, verifications, sampling, and documentation across production, warehouse, and sanitation areas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
RESPONSIBLE FOR FOOD SAFETY.
Ensure adherence to SQF Code Edition 9, including Modules 2 (System Elements), 11 (Food Manufacturing).
Support implementation and maintenance of the facility’s Food Safety Plan, Quality Plan, and associated HACCP programs.
Participate in verification of Critical Control Points (CCPs), Preventive Controls, and Operational Prerequisite Programs (OPRPs).
Perform in-house laboratory testing of raw materials, in-process, and finished products for:
pH, Brix, etc.
Allergen swabbing and ATP verification testing.
Prepare and ship samples to third-party labs and ensure proper documentation and chain of custody.
Maintain lab cleanliness, calibrate equipment, and manage inventory of testing supplies.
Record test results accurately and flag deviations to QA management.
Conduct pre-operational inspections to ensure proper sanitation and setup before production begins.
Verify product labeling, packaging, coding, and traceability.
Perform line checks for weight, seal integrity, product appearance, and other key quality attributes.
Support non-conformance investigations and implement corrective/preventive actions (CAPAs).
Monitor and verify execution of Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs).
Conduct ATP and allergen swab testing, chemical concentration checks, and sanitation validations.
Inspect equipment and facility cleanliness pre- and post-sanitation.
Review sanitation records and follow up on deviations or incomplete cleaning tasks.
Work with sanitation and maintenance teams to address hygienic design and sanitation effectiveness.
Inspect incoming raw materials and packaging for damage, contamination, and compliance with specifications.
Monitor warehouse sanitation, pest control activities, and temperature control (refrigerated/frozen/dry).
Verify proper FIFO practices and traceability throughout storage and shipping processes.
Conduct audits of cleaning schedules, pest control logs, receiving logs, and COAs.
Accurately complete inspection forms, test result logs, deviation reports, cleaning logs, and verification checklists.
Review and maintain documentation required for audits and traceability programs.
Ensure digital or physical recordkeeping complies with SQF, FSMA, and customer requirements.
Participate in internal audits, third-party audits, and regulatory inspections.
Assist with preparation and presentation of QA and sanitation records.
Support root cause analysis and resolution of audit findings.
Provide on-the-floor coaching to staff on GMPs, hygiene, allergen control, and cleaning protocols.
Conduct or support training related to food safety, sanitation, chemical safety, and quality standards.
Promote a culture of continuous improvement and food safety awareness.
OTHER DUTIES
Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Train employees in food safety as needed.
Report any issues/ hazards that require development and mentor employees towards improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification (Preferred):
High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field preferred.
1–3 years’ experience in food manufacturing QA, sanitation, or lab testing roles.
Working knowledge of:
SQF Edition 9, HACCP, FSMA, GMPs
SSOPs, sanitation chemicals, allergen controls
Laboratory testing methods and equipment
Warehouse receiving, storage, and shipping QA standards
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
Familiarity with QA software systems and Microsoft Office.
Excellent communication and writing skills.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to stand for long periods of time in a loud environment.
Ability to work as part of a team and possess the potential to be a team leader.
Manages time to efficiently get the most work done during an 8-hour shift.
Ability to adapt to change.
Experience Required:
1 year of food manufacturing experience-QA and Food Safety.
