Job Description
Industrial Engineer – Battery Module Assembly
Location: Orion Assembly Plant – Orion, MI
Industry: Automotive / EV Manufacturing
Type: Full-Time
Experience Level: Mid-Senior (5+ years automotive required)
About the Role:
We’re looking for a driven and experienced Industrial Engineer to join our Battery Module Assembly Plant. You’ll play a key role in analyzing throughput data, identifying bottlenecks, and leading strategic initiatives to improve production efficiency in our electric vehicle (EV) module assembly process.
This position is a blend of strategic analysis, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration — ideal for someone who’s ready to have a measurable impact in a fast-paced, forward-thinking production environment.
What You’ll Do:
• Analyze weekly/monthly production data to identify throughput issues in the pack assembly process.
• Lead daily TIP (Throughput Improvement Process) meetings (12:30 PM), assigning ownership of issues and ensuring follow-through.
• Collaborate with engineers (on-site, headquarters, and suppliers) to troubleshoot underperforming stations.
• Use Standardized Data Sheets (SDS) for manpower planning and task optimization.
• Work on projects to reduce headcount and increase productivity — goal: eliminate at least one operator position this year.
• Contribute to the development of machine learning tools to track scrap and validate process improvements.
• Support and occasionally lead updates to Standardized Work (STS) and Job Element Sheets (JES) — reviewed monthly or quarterly.
• Present performance updates and project outcomes to cross-functional teams and leadership.
What We’re Looking For:
Must-Have:
• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from an accredited 4-year program.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.
• Proven track record of leading projects and making an impact — e.g., reducing overtime, optimizing labor, or increasing throughput.
• Strong skills in Excel and PowerPoint; ability to gather and present actionable data clearly.
• Familiarity with Standardized Work documentation and Lean Manufacturing principles.
• Able to work under pressure, lead conversations around sensitive topics (e.g., manpower reductions), and earn the trust of team members at all levels.
Preferred:
• Experience with Siemens Plant Simulation or similar industrial engineering tools.
• Background in high-speed, automated assembly lines, ideally in EV or battery manufacturing.
Soft Skills:
• Strong communicator with the ability to lead meetings and present data in a compelling, concise way.
• Respectful, empathetic, and capable of navigating complex interpersonal situations on the floor.
• Problem-solver who can think strategically while also owning the execution.
Why Join Us?
• Be part of working at the forefront of EV production.
• Contribute directly to the automation and machine learning evolution of manufacturing operations.
• High visibility role with room to lead initiatives and drive measurable improvements.
• Work on a high-speed line building one battery module per minute — a critical part of our future.
