The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the College of Arts and Sciences seeks a Post Doctoral Scholar to conduct independent research on human non-coding RNAs in the Nakanishi Lab ( We are looking for a highly motivated scientist to join us in exploring the diverse roles of non-coding RNAs. Responsibilities include expressing recombinant proteins in insect, mammalian, and E. coli cells; purifying proteins using FPLC systems; performing in vitro RNA transcription and labeling; carrying out in vitro assays with purified proteins and RNAs; and preparing samples for structural determination by cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography. The postdoc will receive training from current lab members in culturing insect and mammalian cells as well as in protein and RNA purification methods. The position also requires participating in weekly meetings with the supervisor, submitting biweekly progress reports, attending lab seminars, and contributing to manuscript preparation and grant applications.
Qualifications:
Doctoral Degree in molecular biology and biochemistry with specialization in structural biology or related area required. Demonstrated experience in protein purification required. Candidates who have experience in using cryo-EM and/or confocal microscope are strongly encouraged to apply.
Research interest in non-coding RNAs desired. Strong software skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (or Keynote) are desired.
