Function / Position Summary
Responsible for all duties related to the preparation and serving of student meals and snacks (daily). Adheres to the National Breakfast, Lunch, and Snack Programs guidelines and requirements in accordance with Federal, State, and Local regulations. Provides excellent customer service to all. Attend all monthly safety meetings, required trainings and in-service meetings. May be required to leave the main work site on occasion for meetings, etc.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
Responsible for the proper handling, storage, and organization of all food and supplies.
Maintains a clean and sanitary workspace, in the production room, warehouse, and cart washing area.
Utilizes correct serving utensils and the ability to accurately count to ensure correct meal portioning.
Performs and documents temperature/sanitation checks as required by law.
Ensures dishwashing is always ongoing/completed to meet sanitation expectations.
Ability to work independently in all positions in the commissary.
Ability to set-up and operate packaging equipment and portioning utensils.
Assists with routing satellite meals and completing required documentation.
Exemplify leadership attitude ensuring all meals are produced in timely manner.
Reports issues pertaining to production to Satellite Leader.
Other duties as assigned.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required
Must possess a valid Certified Professional Food Manager Certification, previously known as sanitation certificate. Certificate shall be obtained by the start of the second school term of employment.
Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred.
Experience / Knowledge
Experience in a commercial kitchen preferred.
Excellent customer service.
Proficiency in time management, organization, and multi-tasking (required).
Ability to complete required daily written documentation and communicate verbally.
Hold a State of Illinois Food Handler card and demonstrate specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job. If Certification is not current, must be able to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Physical Demands
Ability to assist in lifting up to 50 lbs. with proper technique.
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to perform repetitive motions.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Must wear appropriate, clean uniforms, hair covering, and safety shoes provided.
Ability to work in very hot and very cold conditions.
Terms of Employment
This is a ten (10) month, SEIU position. Salary benefits as established by the Board of Education
Maintain a positive attendance record as specified in FNS Department Handbook & SEIU contract.
Must be able to adhere to all Blackout dates according to the Food and Nutrition Calendar.
Must complete all FNS and District mandated GCN tutorials, monthly safety training and department sponsored training per USDA by their due dates.
Attend all back to school and professional development meetings/trainings as required.
Attend all back to school professional development meetings/training required.
May be asked to come in two days before school starts to open Commissary (full time only).
May be asked to come in one day after school ends to close Commissary (full time only). Additional Information
