As a Library Security Guard, physical ability is essential as you will be moving around your entire shift, patrolling environments and safeguarding people around you in a Library setting

Responsibilities for Library Security Guard

Provide a visible security presence, control access to restricted areas, and monitor all floors, entrances, and Skywalk

Respond quickly and professionally to incidents, emergencies, alarms, and potential threats

Conduct regular patrols (interior/exterior) to deter suspicious activity and address tenant or visitor concerns

Operate security equipment, including CCTV, alarms, and metal detection gates; ensure all systems are functioning properly

Maintain clear, calm communication with the public and staff, offering site information and directions as needed

De-escalate conflicts using trauma-informed, culturally aware approaches; collaborate with library staff, Crisis Workers, and Community Safety Hosts to foster a safe, welcoming environment

Enforce policies, remove unauthorized individuals, and assist law enforcement as required

Complete incident reports, maintain detailed activity logs, and follow opening/closing procedures for the site

Qualifications for Library Security Guard

Legally authorized to work in Canada

Valid Manitoba Security Guard License

First Aid certification (asset)

Positive attitude with a professional appearance

Physically and mentally fit; able to stand and walk for the entire shift

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Comfortable using technology and security equipment

Tactical experience (asset)
