Position Summary
The Safety and Training Coordinator is responsible for developing, delivering, and managing United Dredgings safety, compliance, and training programs. This includes overseeing OSHA and MSHA compliance, coordinating all new hire orientation and operational onboarding, and building a proactive, safety-first culture across shop and field operations. This role is key to ensuring all team members are prepared, qualified, and aligned with company expectations from day one.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Safety Program Management
Implement and manage safety programs in alignment with OSHA regulations and company policies.
Conduct field inspections, toolbox talks, and safety meetings in collaboration with field leaders.
Investigate incidents and near misses; coordinate corrective actions and retraining as needed.
Orientation & New Hire Training
Plan and lead Operations-specific onboarding and orientation for new hires, covering topics such as:
Company values and expectations
Basic field protocols and reporting structure
PPE, equipment use, and hazard awareness
Safety documentation and daily routines
Coordinate job-specific training with supervisors and ensure all new team members are certified and fully integrated before being assigned to field work.
Provide follow-up support and refresher training during the first 90 days of employment.
MSHA Compliance
Schedule and facilitate MSHA Part 46/48 New Miner, Annual Refresher, Task Training, and Site-Specific instruction.
Maintain all MSHA compliance documentation and act as liaison with external training providers or regulators.
Ensure field teams meet all site-entry training requirements and document task-specific qualifications.
Training Coordination
Maintain a company-wide training matrix and ensure all team members remain up-to-date on required certifications.
Schedule and document third-party trainings (CPR/First Aid, Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, etc.).
Adapt training materials to meet job-specific, location-specific, and regulatory needs.
Documentation and Reporting
Ensure accurate and timely entry of all training data into company systems (e.g., BambooHR).
Prepare compliance reports and support audits or inspections.
Track upcoming renewal dates and communicate requirements with affected team members and managers.
Culture and Accountability
Set the tone for safety and professionalism through your conduct and leadership.
Reinforce accountability by modeling high standards and coaching others to meet them.
Support supervisors in managing team performance related to safety, training, and policy adherence.

100% onboarding completion within the first week of hire
Full compliance with OSHA and MSHA documentation standards
Reduction in safety incidents and near misses
High engagement in training sessions and toolbox talks
Positive feedback from new hires on onboarding experience
Qualifications
High school diploma required; degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or related field preferred
2+ years in safety, training, or compliance roles within construction, mining, or industrial settings
Knowledge of OSHA and MSHA Part 46/48 regulations
Experience conducting group training and onboarding sessions
MSHA Instructor certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
Strong communication, presentation, and documentation skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, BambooHR, and training management tools
Working Conditions
Field and office-based role with regular visits to job sites and shops
Must be able to present training indoors and outdoors, occasionally in variable weather
Travel between project locations required
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and move comfortably through job sites and equipment yards
