Full responsibility and sole source resource for all financial and reporting aspects of the Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT’s) multi-billion-dollar infrastructure asset program. Responsible for the complex recording and accounting duties to annually document, record, and report on the state-owned transportation infrastructure system of 28,700 lane miles of roads, 4,800 bridges, 775 miles of railroads, 74 rest areas and welcome centers, and 3 state owned airports.

Advise and provide recommendations to MDOT management on the level of reinvestment necessary to maintain proper conditions of assets. Determine annual valuations to be reported in the State of Michigan Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (SOMACFR). Document, review, and verify that proper procedures and practices are followed in compliance with Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements related to infrastructure assets.

Sole source accounting and reporting responsibility functioning as MDOT’s in-house municipal bond specialist overseeing the Department’s $3.2 billion bond program. Sole source responsibility for the verification of transactions to ensure accurate reporting for MDOT of Federal Form 1099S, Property Sales and Damage Payments totaling $900,000 annually per Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations.

Required Education and Experience

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting.

Experience

Four years of professional experience performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports equivalent to an Accountant, Auditor, or Assistant Auditor General including two years equivalent to an Accountant P11, Auditor P11, or Assistant Auditor General P11 or one year equivalent to an Accountant 12, Auditor 12, or Assistant Auditor General 12.

Alternate Education and Experience

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant certificate (CPA) may be substituted for one year of Accountant P11 experience.

OR

Possession of a Certified Management Accountant certification (CMA) may be substituted for six months of Accountant P11 experience.
