General Information

Work Location: 3025 Lena Road, Bradenton, FL 34211

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm

Expected Starting Hourly Range: $18.40 - $23.00

This classification is responsible for processing customer complaints and performing follow up customer service regarding Solid Waste Collections to assure customer's issues are resolved. This position provides education and public outreach to the general public regarding solid waste management and recycling programs and participates in the development and implementation of special events or programs outside of the normal garbage collection service to manage solid waste and recycling efforts.

Working Conditions

Indoor/Outdoor situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 50 lbs. alone; up to 100 lbs. with assistance.

Essential Functions

Applying knowledge of applicable procedures, ordinances, franchise agreements and the customer information computer system, effectively executes all skills associated with customer service including, but not limited to, answering and effectively satisfying all customer requests, inquiries and complaints regarding Solid Waste Management.

Provides support and informal training to other team members, when requested.

Prepares and communicates information clearly, effectively and tactfully, orally and in writing; establishes and maintains effective working relationships with colleagues, other County departments, other agencies, and the general public.

Assists with audits in exemptions (yard waste, solid waste and medical back door),

Performs detailed research, collects data and prepares detailed reports.

Assists in annual budget process.

Coordinates with other local departments to resolve solid waste issues.

May be involved in any aspect of the procurement procedure and processing of payments.

Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma, or equivalent certificate of competency.

Minimum of two years' experience in customer relations or related field. Completion of Solid Waste Screening Course within six months of hire date.

Valid driver's license required with valid Florida driver license required within 30 days of hire.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, County codes and ordinances and enforcement procedures.

Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, orally and in writing.

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Ability to handle complaints in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner.

Ability to establish and maintain activity files and prepare periodic reports as requested.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. In accordance with area of assignment, may require ability to work, overtime, including weekends and holidays; ability to work emergency situations as required.

Ability to report and/or travel to various work locations.

Ability to exhibit strong, professional customer service skills.
