Job Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and reliable Grade 12 Data Management (MDM4U) Tutor to support students in mastering key concepts outlined in the Ontario secondary school mathematics curriculum. The ideal candidate will have recently completed high school in Ontario, taken the MDM4U course with a strong academic performance, and demonstrate clear proficiency in combinatorics, probability and statistics. Prior experience tutoring MDM4U is strongly preferred. Completed high school in Ontario and took MDM4U within the last 5 years (required). Post-secondary education (current or completed) in mathematics, statistics, data science, education or related field is an asset.
Duties
Provide one-on-one VIRTUAL tutoring to students enrolled in MDM4U
Help students understand and apply core concepts such as: Probability and statistics, Combinatorics (including permutations, combinations, and organized counting), Probability distributions (binomial, hypergeometric, and others), Expected value and continuous probability, Additive and multiplicative principles, Random selection, theoretical vs. experimental probability
Clarify differences between binomial and hypergeometric distributions
Assist students in preparing for evaluations such as tests, quizzes, and final exams
Use appropriate strategies to enhance student learning and engagement
Track student progress and adjust instructional methods as needed
Maintain consistent communication with the business owner, students, and parents regarding scheduling, progress and any areas of concern
Be available to book sessions with 24 hours' notice when needed
Distribute and review learning resources such as practice tests and quizzes as provided by the owner
Skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Comfortable with digital tools such as Zoom, Google Meet and online whiteboards
Familiarity with the Ontario Grade 12 mathematics curriculum expectations (MDM4U)
Ability to differentiate instruction based on student needs
Ability to explain abstract mathematical concepts in a clear and accessible manner
Demonstrated proficiency in MDM4U (minimum final grade of 90% preferred)
