What we need YOU to do:

Ohio EPA wants you to join our team as an environmental specialist with the Division of Air Pollution Control (DAPC) at our Central Office in Columbus.

We are looking for a motivated team player to assist DAPC with its process for developing, adopting and implementing Ohio’s air quality rules. Your responsibilities include providing engineering support, conducting economic analyses, summarizing public comments and preparing essential documents like fiscal forms and rule summaries.

You’ll track rules packages and coordinate their processing within Ohio EPA and with the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review (JCARR) and interested parties. We’ll need your strong multitasking skills to maintain a five-year review schedule for rules, assist in managing our State Implementation Plans (SIPs) and keep the SIP library and rulemaking websites up to date. You’ll also schedule public notices and public comment periods for proposed rules and SIP actions.

As a subject matter expert, you’ll provide technical assistance to internal staff, district offices, local air agencies, regulated industries and the public regarding the guidelines and policies involved in rule-making.

· Coordinate the process for developing and adopting Ohio’s air rules.

· Track rules packages and coordinate processing within Ohio EPA and JCARR.

· Maintain a five-year review schedule for air rules.

· Assist with managing State Implementation Plans (SIPs)

· Oversee scheduling of public notices and public comment periods for rules and SIPs.

· Provide technical assistance to internal and external customers and interested parties.

4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in position involving geology or hydrology, engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science &/or other comparable physical or health science field, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, experience must be commensurate with duties to be assigned.

-Or baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, geology or other comparable physical or health science field.

-Or positions involved in providing financial, technical & administrative assistance for planning, design & implementation of environmental infrastructure & pollution abatement, & prevention projects, applicants must have completed undergraduate core coursework in business/public administration, public relations/marketing, political science or communications, or have 4 yrs. exp. in position involving public contact to explain policies, procedures & programs of agency, writing of promotional &/or explanatory publications & materials, budgeting, contract administration & working with others on team projects. Note: For all positions engaged in field work, applicants must be able to provide own transportation. New employees in EPA's solid waste program, excluding those in the solid waste planning unit, must obtain a sanitarian-in-training certificate during their probationary period.
