What You'll Do:

The Ohio Attorney General's Office is currently seeking an experienced and professional individual for an Administrative Professional 3 vacancy in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Section. This position will be headquartered with any of the BCI locations. The purpose of the Administrative Professional 3 is to perform complex administrative duties and assist the section in management of office functions. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation, known as BCI, is the state’s official crime lab serving the criminal justice community and protecting Ohio families. BCI also provides expert criminal investigative services to local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies upon request. With offices throughout the state, BCI stands ready to respond 24/7 to local law enforcement agencies’ needs at no cost to the requesting agency.

Staff at BCI work every day to provide the highest level of service. This includes special agents who are on call 24/7 to offer investigative assistance at crime scenes, knowledgeable scientists and forensic specialists using cutting-edge technology to process evidence to bring criminals to justice, and criminal intelligence analysts and identification specialists who help local law enforcement solve cases. Experienced special agents, forensic scientists, and other law enforcement experts' staff BCI's three main divisions: 1) Identifications 2) Investigations and 3) Laboratory.

The duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Performs non-routine administrative tasks (i.e., independently formulates decisions and/or judgments involving nonlegal interpretation of policies and procedures as they would apply to given situation to resolve problems, prepare correspondence and/or reports or to carry out other assignments)

Responds to correspondence

Communicates decisions, directives and/or assignments to appropriate staff

Reviews and summarizes reports on operations activities

Organizes conferences

Coordinates acquisition and maintenance of office machines such as telephones and/or copier and/or telecopier and/or computers

If assigned, acts as lead worker over lower-level administrative and/or office support staff

Purchases supplies and equipment

Interviews, trains and oversees workflow of clerical personnel

Performs secretarial tasks (e.g., prepares confidential correspondence and/or reports; maintains confidential files; maintains calendar and/or makes travel arrangements for supervisor; takes and transcribes dictation and/or minutes of meetings)

Handles sensitive telephone calls; channels calls to appropriate parties for response

Performs clerical tasks (e.g., receives, opens, logs, distributes incoming mail; answers phone and screens calls

Greets and directs visitors

Maintains inventory of general office supplies and orders as needed

Maintains files and retrieves information)

Prepares routine forms

Assists with records retention and disposal schedules and record transfers.

30 mos. exp. or 30 mos. trg. in secretarial/administrative professional field; and typing skill of 60 words per minute.

-Or completion of associate core coursework in secretarial science or business office applications from accredited career school or community college; 12 mos. exp. in secretarial/administrative professional field; and typing skill of 60 words per minute.

-Or 12 mos. exp. as Administrative Professional 2, 16872AG; and typing skill of 60 words per minute.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
