Job Description
Build a Career with Purpose at Advanced Programs Inc. (API)
Since 1969, Advanced Programs Inc. (API) has been developing secure, mission-critical solutions that serve the United States, NATO, and allied partners. As a small, agile company supporting national security initiatives, we offer a tight-knit environment where each employee plays a meaningful role in real-world impact.
Join a team that moves quickly to respond to evolving defense and intelligence challenges—often working directly with government stakeholders to translate urgent needs into engineered solutions. You'll have the chance to make a difference, but you'll also be expected to bring initiative, flexibility, and technical curiosity every day.
Support the Mission: Work with the National Telephone Security Working Group (NTSWG)
As part of this role, you’ll support programs sponsored by the National Telephone Security Working Group (NTSWG)—a U.S. government organization that leads interagency efforts to develop advanced technologies for combating terrorism and protecting national security. NTSWG identifies urgent capability gaps across the defense, intelligence, and homeland security communities and rapidly funds R&D to bridge those gaps. You’ll help deliver solutions that are deployed directly into the hands of U.S. forces, law enforcement, and our allies.
What You’ll Be Doing
Unleash your potential as a Senior Electrical Engineer at Advanced Programs, where you'll design secure products empowering the United States, NATO, and allies to safeguard sensitive information in high-threat environments. Engage in the research, development, and design of cutting-edge communications, computing, and networking products that adhere to rigorous security standards, including emanations (TEMPEST/TSG).
As a key player in our team, you'll be immersed in component-level design of analog and digital systems, specializing in EMI/RFI design. Seize the opportunity to learn from industry leaders and become a subject matter expert yourself in our flexible and dynamic work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the component-level design of analog and digital systems, ensuring optimal performance with a focus on EMI/RFI compliance and TEMPEST & TSG design standards
Design and implement filter circuits with precision, ensuring minimal interference and signal integrity
Utilize ORCAD PCB design software (or similar tools) for schematic capture and PCB layout. Experience with Ansys HFSS Software is a plus
Collaborate closely with mechanical engineers, TEMPEST engineers, and other technical disciplines during system integration of prototypes and production units
Serve as Project Lead, managing budgets, schedules, and ensuring delivery of high-quality engineering output
Review and approve all relevant schematics, PCB layouts, and drawings associated with TEMPEST & TSG product development
Partner with Manufacturing Engineering to diagnose and resolve production-related test issues for TEMPEST-compliant units
Evaluate existing operational systems and recommend design modifications to improve performance, reliability, and compliance
Perform other duties as assigned in support of program and organizational goals
Willingness to travel occasionally (less than 5%) to support project or customer needs
What You Can Expect
End-to-End Involvement: You’ll contribute across the entire engineering lifecycle—from concept and design through prototyping, integration, and delivery
Hands-On Innovation: Expect a blend of desk and lab work, with frequent opportunities to prototype, test, and refine your own designs
Small-Team Impact: At API, your contributions won’t get lost in layers of hierarchy. You’ll be visible and essential, working alongside experts who value initiative and creativity
Mission Relevance: The systems you design will have a direct role in safeguarding national security and supporting real-world defense and intelligence missions
Learning & Growth: With exposure to advanced technologies and industry leaders, you’ll be well-positioned to expand your skills and advance your career
Fast-Paced Variety: Projects are diverse and fast-moving. No two weeks are the same, and you’ll constantly engage with new challenges and technologies
