Position Summary
TheField Mechanic / Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Diesel Technicianis responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical equipment and vehicles directly on job sites or in remote locations. This position requires hands-on technical expertise, strong problem-solving abilities, and effective communication to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and safety of all field equipment

Key Responsibilities
Perform diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs on heavy construction equipment and diesel vehicles, including brands such as John Deere, Komatsu, Ford, and Chevy.
Troubleshoot and repair complex systems involving hydraulics, diesel engines, electrical components, air brakes, and air conditioning systems.
Conduct routine and emergency field inspections and repairs at job sites to minimize downtime and ensure operational continuity.
Respond promptly to service calls and maintain a well-equipped mobile workshop stocked with essential tools, diagnostic equipment, and spare parts.
Perform and document 90-day DOT inspections, ensuring all vehicles and equipment meet applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
Operate a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
Utilize welding and fabrication skills to complete on-site repairs or custom modifications when required.
Participate in equipment safety assessments such as HAZOPs (Hazard and Operability Studies) and FMEAs (Failure Modes and Effects Analyses).
Assist in the installation of new equipment and support system upgrades as needed.
Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areasboth in the field and in the shop.
Provide guidance to equipment operators on proper use and routine maintenance best practices.
Maintain accurate service records, including work performed, parts used, and labor hours.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, operators, the central maintenance team, and safety personnel to schedule and coordinate repairs.
Attend all mandatory safety and employee meetings.
Report any safety concerns or incidents immediately to the Foreman, Safety Director, or HR.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in Six Sigma or related quality improvement projects when applicable.
Education & Experience
35 yearsof experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic; field repair experience preferred.
Proficient in diagnosing and repairingdiesel engines,hydraulic systems, andelectrical issues.
Experience with welding and fabrication (MIG, stick, cutting)
Must own and bring your own mechanical tool set.
Familiarity with OSHA and DOT regulations; exposure toOSHA PSMstandards a plus.
Ability to read and understand technical manuals, service bulletins, and schematics.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Willingness to workovertime, weekends, and travel to local job sites as needed.
License/Certification
Valid Drivers License (Required); Class A License is a plus
Physical Requirements
Occasionally required to walk, stand, kneel, and bend for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
Must be able to lift heavy objects up to 60 pounds, more than 60 pounds with assistance not to exceed 100 lbs.
Frequent use of computers and phones for extended periods
Must have full range of vision and depth perception for document review and system use
lifts, pushes, pulls, or carry objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively jumps, sprints, or throws objects.
The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs.
The employee must have excellent stamina.
