The Role

The Bilotti lab in the Biochemistry and Microbiology Division is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to engage in research on exonucleases. The successful candidate will use in vitro biochemistry and structural biology to characterize known exonucleases and will seek to discover new exonucleases via genome mining and functional screening.

How you will contribute:

Design and execute experiments to characterize exonuclease biochemistry, including enzyme kinetics experiments and NGS-based assays

Create clever, high-throughput activity assays for enzyme discovery

Communicate discoveries and findings to the scientific community through publications and presentations

Collaborate with internal and external partners

Maintain high standards of scientific rigor, quality of data, and documentation practices

Partner to establish an engaging and supportive culture for this new research team

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline

Technical expertise in enzymology

Proficient in designing and executing diverse biochemistry and molecular biology assays

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Publication of original scientific work in high-quality journals

What will make you stand out:

Experience in structural biology, including X-ray crystallography or cryo-EM

Experience with enzyme superfamily studies, including genome mining, phylogenetic tree analysis, and ancestral sequence reconstruction

*Submission of a cover letter with your application is highly encouraged*

This position offers exciting opportunities for broad research training, collaboration with academic and industrial institutions, publishing in peer-reviewed journals and participation in national and international conferences.
