Description of Work

**This is an anticipated vacancy.

The Substance Abuse Counselor, Clinical position will be responsible for providing direct patient care services to an outpatient opiate/opioid dependent population of men and women admitted to the Walter B Jones Center's Opioid Treatment Program. Job responsibilities include the following:

Individual and Group Counseling

Case Management and psycho-education with an assigned group of patients

Provide "First Responder" crisis response to clients experiencing a crisis Position is assigned to WBJ Center / Outpatient OTP Services, Monday through Friday 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM with rotating weekends

About the Walter B. Jones Center:

The Walter B. Jones Center operates two adult inpatient treatment programs on site in Greenville, NC: (1) Woodside Treatment Center and (2) Lakeside Psychiatric Hospital. The primary purpose and mission of the Walter B. Jones Center is "To provide inpatient treatment, psychiatric stabilization and medical detoxification for individuals with mental health, substance use and other co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses for ongoing community based treatment and recovery". The Center is accredited by the Joint Commission and SAMHSA/CSAT. Two specialty programs are offered to all 100 NC Counties: (1) Inpatient Opioid Treatment for adults and (2) Inpatient Perinatal Services for women in their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimesters with substance use disorders.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following:

Considerable knowledge and practical application of advanced therapeutic approaches, group dynamics, and crisis intervention, family and trauma-focused therapy.

Proven skill in expressing ideas clearly and concisely and in working effectively with staff and clients.

Thorough knowledge of the substance abuse addiction processes, including psychological and physical withdrawal.

Proven skill in establishing rapport with clients and their families and in applying techniques of assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of addiction.

Proven skill in formulating clear, goal-oriented treatment plans with appropriate documentation.

Considerable knowledge of recovery-based community resources, such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, etc.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Licensed as a Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS) or as a Clinical Supervisor Intern (CSI) to practice under the provisions of the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Act.

In the event that no applicants fully licensed as a Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS) are found, management will consider applicants with credentials of LCAS - Associate for supervision under the DHHS Trainee Progression Program.

IMPORTANT: LCAS or LCAS-A credentials are required. Enter your current and valid licensure information in the Certificates and Licenses section of the State Job Application.

Degrees must be from appropriately accredited colleges or universities.
