Overview
Under general supervision of the Engineering Manager, the Engineering Associate will perform various duties and tasks in support of Traffic Engineering, Right-of-Way, and Traffic Operations. Responsibilities include office and field support; review and tracking status of private, maintenance and capital improvement projects; tracking and inputting information into databases and asset management systems; coordinating information with other City departments; providing information in response to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
• Management of right-of-way permitting, licensing, and review of traffic control plans, designs and specifications
• Maintain records, reports, files and construction plans
• Provide office and field support
• Track status and coordination of requests from the public, contractors, internal City Departments and external agencies
• Review, research, and maintenance of records for traffic control devices, street lighting, residential traffic management requests
• Coordination and review of private, maintenance and capital improvement projects
• Review, research, and record data for traffic signal systems, signs, and pavement markings
• Track field changes using databases and asset management software
• Assist in the review and management of maintenance plans
• Development of layouts, sketches, plans, calculations, estimates, memos, presentations
• Attends and participates in meetings as assigned
• Coordinate workflow for projects
• Assist with walk-ins, handles phone call, email, and work order requests
• Help with special projects, as assigned in support of Traffic Engineering/Operations functions
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Exempt - Full-Time
• Non-rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
• Must be available to work additional hours as needed
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications
• Associate's degree (AA/ AS); or 2-year technical certificate
• Two (2) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
