ABOUT THE POSITION:
Speedway Motorsports (SM) is seeking a Communications Manager at Dover Motor Speedway (DMS) who will play a pivotal role in shaping and conveying the organization's message to various stakeholders, including media, corporate clients, fans, and the community. This position is responsible for developing and implementing effective communication strategies that enhance the DMS brand's visibility and reputation within the sports, entertainment, hospitality, tourism, and recreation industries. The Manager will work closely with the Vice President, Marketing & Communications, and internal teams to ensure consistent messaging across all platforms, including social media, press releases, and community outreach initiatives. By fostering strong media relations and engaging with the community through an ongoing proactive approach, the Communications Manager will help drive attendance, visibility, and participation in events at the Speedway for NASCAR and other key events, including secondary events such as music festivals, GoodGuys car shows, and Gift of Lights. Ultimately, this role aims to create a positive and lasting impression of Dover Motor Speedway, contributing to its growth and success in the industry.
The required skills in internal communication and media relations will be used daily to ensure that all stakeholders are informed of and engaged with Dover Motor Speedway's initiatives. Writing and editing skills will be essential for crafting clear and compelling messages that resonate with diverse audiences. Strategic communication and media strategy will guide the development of campaigns that effectively promote events and enhance the brand's image. Working with DMS Marketing, social and digital media strategies will be employed to create dynamic content that drives engagement and fosters community relations. Additionally, public relations skills will be crucial in building and maintaining positive relationships with media outlets and community partners.

Core Responsibilities
• Improve and execute internal and external communication strategies to bring more attention and focus to DMS and its initiatives.
• Generate ideas, content and execute imaginative publicity plans through multimedia storytelling.
• Research and draft timely social media content, news releases, stories, email and website content; proofread all marketing copy.
• Maintain and serve as primary point of contact for the DMS website, including uploading content, edits, and best practices.
• Collaborate with various departments to ensure alignment in messaging and branding.
• Monitor and analyze media coverage, public sentiment, and community engagement to inform and enhance communication strategies.
• Develop and implement strategies to keep DMS relevant during non-event times; aggressively pitch media outlets.
• Proactively research and evaluate opportunities for additional exposure with a focus on ticket sales.
• Work with SM teammates to collaborate and execute effectively on content, events, and other big ideas.
Speedway Leadership / Support
• Work with DMS and SM to clearly define and execute the overall communications and public relations strategy and execution.
• Improve existing public relations plans and communications objectives for every major event and secondary events.
• Update and manage media distribution lists and the credential approval process for race weekend.
• Make recommendations on and manage the Communications budget.
• Evaluate competitor strategies and positioning and devise cross promotion and/or counterstrategies.
• Operate with a servant leadership approach to DMS and SM colleagues.
Marketing
• Work with Marketing and Social Media teams to improve overarching communications strategy focused on media coverage, fan admissions, sponsorship support, and community initiatives.
• Support/assist development of social media planning and content creation.
• Provide creative direction and collaborate with Creative Services to create compelling collateral materials.
Media/Advertising
• Lead communications planning to engage and grow media channels and partnerships.
• Improve strategies to attract and retain customers and increase brand recognition.
• Ensure DMS optimizes NASCAR and Xfinity media resources.
• Utilize AI tools to generate creative content for DMS website and promotions.
Corporate Sales Support
• Attend Corporate Sales meetings to support partner obligations and activation needs.
• Create necessary communications to assist in the sales process.
Events Team Support
• Coordinate media center operations, including staff, schedules, transportation, and sponsor-related support.
• Promote and advance key DMS events, both at the track and in the community.
• Assist with securing NASCAR drivers for appearances, autograph sessions, and media opportunities.
Speedway Children’s Charities Support
• Support SCC Dover Chapter events and fundraising initiatives.
• Create necessary materials such as press releases and media distribution.
Corporate Leadership / Support
• Maintain active role on Speedway Motorsports communications team to improve corporate communication and efficiencies.
• Lead in the creation, enhancement, and utilization of SM business processes and templates.
• Collaborate with other departments on team-based projects.
Minimum Qualifications
• Three to five years of experience in communications, public relations, or media.
• Experience designing and implementing PR campaigns.
• Strong leadership skills and strategic mindset.
• Excellent writing, editing, and content creation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and AP Style.
• Ability to work nights and weekends; occasional travel required.
• Knowledge of the motorsports industry preferred.
