CTG's long-standing Fortune 500 client of over 15 years has a W2 contract assignment for a Fiber Optics Installation & Testing Technician II.

Type: Contract

Job Title: Fiber Optics Installation & Testing Technician II

Location: Hickory, NC

Candidates must be able to commute and work onsite in Hickory, NC

Pay Rate: $23.35 - $24.50 per hour

Work Hours: M-F 8am-4pm

Education: High School diploma minimum

Description

The Eng. Multi-Discipline Technician II will work with optical fiber-based products, performing hands-on technical tasks such as fiber fusion splicing, connector inspection and cleaning, cable installation, and environmental/mechanical testing. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team under varying environmental conditions.

Requirements

• Experience with optical fiber-based products: fiber fusion splicing, inspecting/cleaning/installing optical fiber connectors, and optical fiber cable installation (field installation)

• Data processing and data analysis using computer macros

• No restrictions on physically pulling/maneuvering heavy-duty optical fiber cables

• Ability to work under extreme temperature conditions (-22 F to 104 F)

• Good eyesight and ability to identify colors

• Strong teamwork skills

Required Qualifications

Education

• High School diploma minimum

Qualifications

• Familiarity with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

• Ability to complete assignments accurately and on schedule

• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills

• Strong interpersonal and communication abilities

• Hands-on experience with test and measuring equipment

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Assist in setup and performance verification of fiber optic testing systems

• Configure product samples for environmental and mechanical testing

• Perform optical measurements using manual or automated test systems

• Program and operate environmental chambers and test equipment

• Execute tests following established procedures

• Document test results from optical fiber component testing per documented processes

• Conduct basic data analysis and draft test reports

• Assist in failure mode analysis and basic troubleshooting/problem solving

• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area
