Description:
Alloy Engineering, located in Berea, is hiring a skilled Burn Table Operator to join our team on the 1st shift. The ideal candidate will have experience with CNC burn tables, plasma cutting, and oxy-fuel cutting. The Burn Table Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring CNC and/or manual burn tables to cut metal plates or sheets to precise specifications. This role includes performing tasks such as grinding, deburring, cleaning parts, cutting materials, and removing scrap. The Burn Table Operator is also responsible for accurately completing all project-related paperwork. This position requires basic skills with a focus on accuracy, efficiency, and safe operation of machines and tools while planning, staging, loading, and unloading materials on the tables. This role requires knowledge of material types, thicknesses, cutting processes, and reading blueprints. The operator ensures safe and efficient operation, maintains equipment, and produces high-quality parts to meet production schedules.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Set Up & Operation
Load raw material (steel, stainless steel, aluminum, nickel alloy, etc.) onto the burn table using overhead cranes or forklifts.
Set up and operate CNC plasma, oxy-fuel, or laser burn tables according to work orders, blueprints, and CAD/CAM programs.
Select appropriate cutting tips, consumables, speeds, feeds, and gases for material type and thickness.
Verify cutting programs for accuracy and adjust as needed.
Cutting & Production
Monitor burn table operation to ensure clean, accurate cuts and minimize scrap.
Perform test cuts to confirm tolerances before running full production.
Mark, tag, and move cut parts to the next process according to routing.
Remove slag, burrs, or imperfections from parts when required.
Quality Control
Inspect cut parts using measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, squares) to verify dimensions meet blueprint tolerances.
Identify and correct any defects or deviations.
Record production data and inspection results following quality procedures.
Safety & Maintenance
Follow all safety policies, including PPE use, lockout/tagout, and proper handling of materials and equipment.
Maintain the cleanliness of the work area and equipment.
Perform routine maintenance such as replacing consumables, cleaning filters, and checking gas lines.
Report mechanical or software issues to maintenance or supervision immediately.Requirements:
Competencies and Experience Needed:
High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical training preferred.
1–3 years of experience operating CNC plasma or oxy-fuel burn tables preferred (willing to train entry-level candidates with mechanical aptitude).
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and welding symbols.
Skilled in operating forklift or overhead crane equipment and various power tools, including saws, ironworkers, drill presses, punches, torches, portable plasma cutters, sanders, and jib cranes.
Proficiency with measuring instruments and basic math, including fractions and decimals.
Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and ability to work independently.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs for extended periods.
Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with heat, noise, and dust.
The ability to wear required PPE includes safety glasses, hearing protection, metatarsal steel-toe boots, and gloves.
The plant facility does not have air conditioning
Full-time
