Columbus Water & Power, Division of Water Reclamation, is accepting applications for a vacant 3rd shift Water Reclamation Plant Supervisor II position (Thursday-Monday, 10:45 p.m. -6:45 a.m.). This position will plan and supervise the operation of the Southerly Water Reclamation Plant (6977 S. High St.). Southerly is a 114 MGD activated sludge treatment plant with anaerobic digestion.

Under direction, is responsible for planning and supervising the operation of a water reclamation plant on an assigned shift; performs related duties as required.
Examples of Work
(Any one position may not include all of the examples listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.)
Assigns operating personnel to work projects by oral and written instructions;
Inspects plant operations by reviewing and analyzing laboratory and plant data for conformance to required procedures and instructions;
Supervises plant staff;
Makes appropriate operating decisions such as making changes and adjustments by reviewing plant performance;
Receives and carries out orders from plant management directing plant procedures;
Makes emergency work assignments as required;
Trains subordinates as required;
Provides input to other plant management on issues such as the budget, staffing, planning, and meeting requirements;
Prioritizes and validates maintenance requests;
Acts as a liaison with contractors and consulting engineers to answer inquiries, to evaluate plant performance, and to coordinate construction activities;
Conducts shift meetings to share information and discuss water reclamation processes, personnel, equipment, and City or department policies etc;
Answers inquiries and handles complaints from the public;
Communicates with other agencies to provide information or answer inquiries;
Conducts tours for engineers, vendors, and the general public;
Investigates odor complaints from the general public;
Reviews construction plans and specifications to determine the feasibility of a layout and compatibility with the plant operation;
Completes performance appraisals, approves leave requests, and recommends disciplinary actions;
Attends seminars, trainings, or workshops in order to accrue professional contact hours needed to fulfill Ohio Environmental Protection Agency requirements for
wastewater operator certification renewal;
Operates a computerized Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to monitor and report
information about the processes;
Writes reports as required;
Writes maintenance requests/work orders for equipment repairs as required;
Acts as an incident commander in case of plant emergencies such as tornados, flooding, fire, chemical leaks, or explosions.
Minimum Qualifications
Three (3) years of experience in the operation of a water reclamation facility; one (1) year of which must have been as a supervisor over other water reclamation plant operators.
Possession of a valid Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) State of Ohio Class III or IV Wastewater Operator certificate for wastewater treatment works.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
SPECIAL NOTE
Applicants currently holding an equivalent operator certification in another state and who are eligible to obtain reciprocity from the Ohio EPA will be considered by the Division of Sewerage and Drainage. Successful attainment of the appropriate Ohio EPA operator certificate is required at the time of a Minimum Qualifications review.
