Description
The Assistant/Associate Planner or Engineer facilitates the implementation of transportation projects in the region thorough implementation of funding programs and fulfilling the Metropolitan Planning Organization and Rural Transportation Planning Organization requirements for the region to receive federal transportation funds. This position works closely with ODOT and local public agencies to coordinate regional improvements and assists with project development and public review and involvement processes.
Assistant/Associate Planners or Engineers should have a strong understanding of transportation planning and / or civil engineering. Good communication (written and oral) abilities and a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office software are essential for the position.
Examples of Duties
The Assistant/Associate Planner or Engineer essential job functions include:
Co-lead development and maintenance of the regional Transportation Improvement Programs (TIP).
Assist in management of MORPC transportation projects that are receiving federal funds.
Assist members in obtaining and utilizing transportation funds including state, federal and innovative funding programs.
Assist MORPC team and members with the proposal writing, reviewing and policy workers development associated the Ohio Public Works Programs, Transportation Improvement Districts and any other infrastructure program members wish to leverage.
Prepares research, planning reports, and summaries.
Presents reports and represents MORPC in a non-policymaking capacity to government officials, citizen groups, professional organizations, etc. Represents MORPC in various public forums including public involvement meetings, and inter-agency coordination meetings.
Assists with updating MORPC planning and program documents.
Maintains working knowledge of federal and state guidelines.
Typical Qualifications
A bachelors degree and two (2) years experience in planning, engineering, public policy, or a related field (Assistant Level).
A masters degree may be substituted for two (2) years of experience (Associate Level)
The successful candidate must have the ability to maintain a positive working relationship with peers, the public, and outside agencies. They will also be expected to aid co-workers and members to coordinate transportation projects and make routine reports succinctly, all in a timely fashion. The ability to use phone, computer, and conduct professional meetings.
The successful candidate must have reliable transportation to report to the MORPC's office location and to attend off-site meetings, events, or client visits as required. A valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle may be necessary depending on the specific needs of the role.
Essential functions include the ability to use phone, computer, and conduct professional meetings. MORPC has a flexible work environment which allows for some remote work capabilities. However, this position will have the expectation to work in-person 3 days per week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
