STRS Ohio is seeking a Post-Retirement, Benefits Processing Account Representative to join the Member Benefits/Recipient Benefits Processing team.

Compensation:

$22.69 - $25.52/ hr.

Work Schedule:

8:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday (Onsite)

General Summary:

Under the direction of the assistant director, Recipient Benefits Processing and the supervisor, Post-Retirement Benefits Processing, receive and process death reports, analyze documents and records to determine eligible recipients. Pay lump-sum and monthly benefits, determine eligibility and process benefit changes and assist in other areas of benefits processing.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Process notifications of recipient deaths. Research death match accounts to determine beneficiary and payment options.

Review the member’s record and family information to determine beneficiaries and benefits payable. Prepare all the appropriate documents and forms for the benefits payable to the beneficiary, such a power of attorney (POA), bank and tax changes.

Analyze documents as they are returned and process all payments, including lump-sum and monthly benefits, to all beneficiaries. Determine if funds due or paid during the member’s lifetime need to be replaced to the beneficiaries and make those payments.

Evaluate and determine if benefits are due State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio) after the death of the recipient and collect benefit overpayments. Prepare collection documentation if applicable.

Determine eligibility, prepare estimates and make benefit changes due to marriage, divorce and beneficiary death.

Summary of Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent required.

College-level coursework or three years’ relevant experience required.

Associate degree in business or related field preferred.

Demonstrated ability to analyze information and appropriately apply business rules to process requests such as, but not limited to, eligibility and benefit calculations.

Excellent math and analytical skills required.

Ability to proofread or evaluate written material required.

Above-average oral and written communication skills required.

Excellent organizational skills and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail required.
