Job Title: Specialist FM Engineer (Fire)

Location: Waton / Samlesbury

Salary: £47,683+ dependent upon skills and experience

Referral Bonus: £1000

Grade: E

What you’ll be doing:

• Provide Fire Safety Governance and assurance. Pro-actively manage all aspects of fire safety and fire systems across the UK AIR Sector ensuring the protection of personnel and assets whilst also taking into account business continuity

• Ensure full compliance the Regulatory Reform (fire safety) Order 2005 to ensure the safety of personnel on BAE Systems locations

• Assist with delivery of third party contract for the implementation and delivery of the Fire Risk Assessment process across UK AIR Sector sites. Ensure robust processes are in place to review and allocate actions highlighted by the fire risk assessment process

• Make key decisions on immediate situations that compromise the safety of personnel or the protection of business critical assets

• Work with external and local authority emergency services to ensure that the correct level of emergency response is in place commensurate with the risk posed; these can include Control of Major Accidents and Hazards sites, breathing apparatus and confined space rescues

• Provide initial fire investigation upon notification of any fire incident across the UK Air Sector sites and locations, escalate investigation in accordance with situation

• Supporting the wider Engineering and Sustainability team on the development of innovation opportunities to decarbonise the estate and manufacturing systems

• Delivery of awareness/training (e.g. Breathing Apparatus, Fire Marshall) Conduct surveys, audits, and process confirmations of systems and assets within field of influence, their condition, performance and operation

Your skills and experiences:

• Hold a minimum of a nationally accredited fire safety qualification, preferably degree level

• Awareness and working knowledge of British and NFPA Standards

• Previous experience working in a Fire Safety role/responsibility or emergency services

• Working with stakeholders to develop and maintain robust internal controls over key business processes

• Able to work well in a team environment as well as autonomously, without the need for day-to-day direct oversight

• Be able to produce excellent written work and presentations that can be shared with a wide audience

• Experience working across a diverse and complex multi-site company also working with complex fire detection and suppression systems with an awareness and working knowledge of British and NFPA Standards

• Reviewing policies, processes or working practices, identifying gaps and making suggestions for change as appropriate

• Emergency services background and/or experience with emergency planning, an understanding of the response requirements for an Upper Tier CoMAH site

The Governance Team:

The successful candidate will join the Governance Team, a dedicated function within the Infrastructure and Facilities Management organisation supporting the BAE Systems Air Sector. This team plays a vital role in ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and maintaining high standards of fire safety governance across all Air sites, including Samlesbury and Warton.

You will report directly to the Statutory Compliance and Fire Engineering Team Leader and collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across the Air Sector, including infrastructure project teams, site operations, and health & safety personnel. The role will also involve engagement with external stakeholders, such as regulatory bodies, contractors, and emergency services, ensuring a robust and consistent approach to fire safety and statutory compliance.
