The Role
The Apprenticeship Manager is responsible for managing the ABC Apprenticeship Program at Suburban Enterprises and supporting our Apprentices throughout their journey.
What You'll Do
Training & Development:
Maintain comprehensive training records for all apprentices, ensuring all records are current and providing reports as requested.
Coordinate apprenticeship class logistics.
Serves as a liaison for technical schools and programs to assist in the recruiting process for the Apprenticeship Program:
Establishes and maintains long-standing relationships with area schools: Coordinate job shadows for all divisions within the company. First point of contact for all school counselors, teachers, CESA and parents for any and all job shadows at Suburban.
Assists in teaching the QuickStart Program coordinating with Safety, Equipment and Tools Specialists.
Interviews all new Pre-Apprentices and Apprentices:
Conduct the interviews with the TA Specialist serving as the SME throughout all interviews, in collaboration with Human Resources.
Actively participates in professional and trade-related organizations:
ABC Appleton/Green Bay Advisory Committee Board Member
The Fox Valley Electrical Contractors Association
Electricity Technical Diplomas Advisory Committee
ABC Electrical Advising Meeting
Assists T&D Manager with developing training and development programs and objectives for Apprentices:
Apprenticeship Program Manager (Youth and Apprenticeship Programs):
First point of contact for Youth Apprentice, Pre-Apprentice. Apprentice and Electrical Technician employee relations.
Perform outreach and recruitment for the Apprenticeship Program to help build and manage community and industry relationships:
Serves as a point of contact for Youth Apprentice, Pre-Apprentice. Apprentice and Electrical Technicians, supporting the Electrical Services leaders with any apprenticeship related questions regarding employee experience.
Partners closely with technical/trade schools and ABC on program execution. Represents Suburban in apprenticeship committee meetings.
Manage apprentice on-the-job training. This includes management of team member field assessment and proper work placement for development of functional/technical skills.
Coordinate application and selection process for youth apprentices, pre-apprentices, and apprentice candidates.
Assist with orientation efforts during WOW week as needed with anything regarding the Apprenticeship Program.
Licensing & Certification:
School Certifying Official (SCO) for the Company from Department of Veteran’s Affairs:
Create enrollments every year for the Team members participating in this program
Submit monthly certification hours they have worked at Suburban.
What You Bring (Required Experience)
Strong technical background, five (5) years’ related experience in the electrical, specialty systems, or related trade preferred.
Prior people management experience.
Journeyman Electrician license.
Graduated from an Apprenticeship Program.
Ability to work occasional early mornings and/or later hours to coincide with training sessions.
Effectively manages time and prioritizes workload, assumes, and manages multiple tasks without close supervision, adapts to change, and consistently meets deadlines.
Strong written/verbal communication skills; good listening skills.
Persistent, self-motivated and self-assured style.
Adaptable and driven.
Strong work ethic.
Bonus Points For (Preferred Experience)
1 to 3 years training, development, and facilitation experience in the construction industry preferred.
Master’s Electrician License preferred.
Knowledge and experience with graphic/visual design, and tools preferred.
Thorough understanding of construction principles and processes.
Knowledge of instructional design and course development preferred.
Previous experience with or exposure to apprenticeship programs or completion of an apprenticeship program.
Advanced education (associate or bachelor’s degree) preferred.
Construction or manufacturing experience preferred.
Knowledge of and ability to use a variety of PC-based software including advanced features of word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, database, and communication package. This includes creating course curriculum, developing materials and assessments using MS Office, eLearning tools, multimedia visual aids, workbooks, etc.
