Description
The Advisor, TRIO Academic & Life Skills position is responsible for providing TRIO project participants with customized wrap around support while enrolled at the College, with a special emphasis on retention and graduation. The advisor engages with students to help them define their major and career goals, increases the skills necessary to be a successful student, and connects students to appropriate resources the campus offers for student success. This position develops and delivers skills development workshops and provide materials with a focus on study skills, financial wellness, career and major exploration, and life management strategies. This position is funded through a grant from the US Department of Education through a renewable five-year grant in 2030.
Shift: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm. Evenings and weekends, as needed.
Location: Beavercreek and Springfield Location
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
· Identifies and recruits eligible students to participate in the TRIO project.
· Advises and assists in creating an academic plan and course selection. Provides academic and holistic student support to the TRIO cohort of students.
· Develops connections with faculty and staff to foster program awareness and student success.
· Assists in the coordination of four-year college visits and career enrichment field trips.
· Maintains individual student records in project database.
· Collects and evaluates project data and recommends changes to the project director to improve student retention and graduation.
· Develops career community activities for student exploration of different majors and careers with campus and regional employer contacts.
· Develops, facilitates, and assesses workshops on academic and non-cognitive skills.
· All other duties assigned by supervisor.
Experience
Six months to two years of similar or related experience.
Education
A Bachelor's degree. Master’s degree preferred, or equivalent required in student personnel, education, or other related field.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations: Requires travel to multiple campus locations; a valid driver's license and/or dependable transportation is required.

Budget Impact: In conjunction with the Project Director, this position monitors expenses related to the annual TRIO grant budget, in accordance with Clark State College policies and in compliance with requirements and regulations of the government.
Experience supporting traditional and non-traditional age students, as well as those who are first-generation, have financial need or have a disability.

Physical Requirements
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
