Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Turbomachinery Engineer to join our engineering team and take full ownership of the power generation and/or primary cooling turbomachinery for our product. This role focuses on the mechanical design and analysis of high-speed rotating machinery—including compressors, turbines, and pumps—operating under high-temperature conditions. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in mechanical design, structural and thermal finite element analysis (FEA), rotordynamic simulations, and bearing selection and integration, complemented by hands-on experience in hardware development.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the complete lifecycle of turbomachinery systems, from initial architecture and down-selection through to mass-production design.

Develop detailed mechanical designs for turbomachinery components such as rotors, stators, housings, and seals.

Perform static and dynamic structural analyses using FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus) to evaluate stresses, deformations, and fatigue life.

Conduct thermal analyses to assess temperature distribution and thermal stresses under transient and steady-state operating conditions.

Carry out rotordynamic modeling and analysis to determine critical speeds, mode shapes, unbalance response, and system stability.

Select appropriate bearing types (rolling element, fluid film, magnetic, etc.) based on operating requirements, and evaluate bearing loads, life expectancy, and thermal performance.

Prepare comprehensive technical reports, design documentation, and presentations.

Oversee the fabrication, assembly, and testing of prototype, first article, and production hardware.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

Minimum 5 years of experience in turbomachinery, rotating equipment, or mechanism design and analysis.

Proficiency in CAD and FEA software (SolidWorks, ANSYS, Abaqus, or equivalents), with solid knowledge of GD&T.

Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent technical communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with supercritical CO2 systems.

Deep understanding of rotordynamics and related tools (e.g., XLrotor, DyRoBeS).

Expertise in material selection for high-temperature, high-speed applications.

Hands-on experience with turbomachinery testing and instrumentation.

Proven ability to translate broad machinery requirements (power, speed, bearing leakage) into conceptual designs, including wheel and shaft configuration and bearing and alternator selection.

Familiarity with AC power generation and power electronics.

Knowledge of industry standards such as API, ASME, and ISO.

Basic programming skills in Python, C++, or equivalent.

Prior experience in the nuclear sector is not required.Company Description
