Organization Summary:

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering ( has twenty-five (25) tenure-track/tenured faculty members, two (2) instructors, five (5) supporting faculty from the Center for Urban Transportation (CUTR) at USF, three (3) staff members, and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees, serving nearly 250 undergraduates, 125 masters, and 70 PhD students. Our new and rapidly growing BSEV program was accredited by ABET in 2024. Our Environmental Engineering graduate program was ranked 48th nationally and 23rd among US public universities by US News & World Report (2023). The Civil Engineering graduate program is ranked in the top 70 nationally and top 50 among US public universities, by US News and World Report.

Position Summary:

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is seeking a full-time Assistant Professor of Instruction in the areas of Environmental and Water Resource Engineering. The selected candidate is expected to have an earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a closely related field. Candidates must be qualified to teach core undergraduate courses that support the BS degrees in both Civil Engineering (BSCE) and Environmental Engineering (BSEV), such as Environmental Systems Engineering, Environmental Engineering Laboratory, Basic Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulics, and Hydraulics Laboratory. Candidates may also develop courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the above areas. Additional responsibilities include participation in departmental, college, and university committees, assisting with ABET accreditation activities and assisting with student advising. Candidates who have a demonstrated interest in developing more effective Civil & Environmental Engineering programs are especially encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):

Minimum Qualifications:

Earned doctoral degree or all but dissertation (ABD) from an accredited institution in environmental engineering, civil engineering, or another closely related field at the time of appointment. Candidates with an earned master’s degree from an accredited institution in environmental engineering, civil engineering, or another closely related field with five years’ of professional experience, a professional engineering (PE) license and demonstration of effective teaching experience. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor of Instruction.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with a master’s degree, 5 years of professional experience, a Professional Engineering (PE) license and demonstration of effective teaching experience will also be considered. Candidates must be qualified to teach core undergraduate courses that support the BS degrees in both Civil Engineering (BSCE) and Environmental Engineering (BSEV), such as Environmental Systems Engineering, Environmental Engineering Laboratory, Basic Fluid Mechanics, Hydraulics, and Hydraulics Laboratory. Candidates may also develop courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the above areas. Additional responsibilities include participation in departmental, college, and university committees, assisting with ABET accreditation activities and assisting with student advising.
