Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Responsibilities & Duties

Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments

Diagnoses and treat mental health disorders at all ages.

Prescribe medications and other treatments as necessary

Develop and implement individualized treatment plans

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals

Conduct therapy sessions with patients

Document patient care in electronic medical records and ensure compliance with regulations and standards

Educate patients and families about mental health conditions and treatment options

Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Qualifications & Skills

Master's or Doctoral degree in Psychiatric Nursing

Certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC)

Experience in a clinical psychiatric setting

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems

Knowledge of current mental health laws and ethical standards

Experience with a diverse patient population

Leadership and management abilities

Graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program with a focus on psychiatry

Current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner

Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or another relevant certifying body

Minimum of 2 years of experience in outpatient psychiatric setting. New grads are welcome to apply.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care

Familiarity with electronic medical records and healthcare technology

Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
