Our unit, formerly De Jong Packaging Group, has grown since its acquisition in 2023 into one of the largest producers of corrugated cardboard in Western Europe. We produce environmentally friendly, high-quality corrugated packaging for well-known brands in sectors such as retail, agriculture, food, e-commerce, and industry. We also offer additional services including design, printing, warehousing, logistics, and transport.
Our unit has locations in the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, and Belgium. In the Netherlands, there are seven locations, each with its own specialization.
Our team is responsible for the IT of the sites in the Netherlands and Belgium. The team consists of 3 application managers, a service delivery manager, 4 service desk employees, 3 product owners/managers, 2 business analysts, a data engineer, several project managers, 3 decentralized IT colleagues, and an IT Director. The majority of the IT team is based in De Lier.

We are now looking for a Data Engineer to join our team in Ostrava, Czechia.
ln this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, optimizing, and maintaining scalable and reliable data infrastructure. This includes integrating data from multiple sources, modeling data warehouses, ensuring data quality, and facilitating reliable access to data for analytical and operational needs.
You will act as a key link between IT, business and data analysts, data stewards, and data owners (business management). You will collaborate closely with business key users, the development/support supplier and the central data team of the business area Packaging Solutions.
You will be located in modern office in Ostrava, Czechia and report hierarchically to the IT Director/ functionally to the Data Product Owner.
Key responsibilities
1. Design and Development of Data Solutions
Develop robust and reusable data pipelines (ETL/ELT processes) to extract, transform, and load data from internal and external sources.
Set up data warehouses, data marts, and other storage structures aligned with the organization’s information needs.
Apply principles such as data vault modeling, dimensional modeling, and star schemas.
Develop data visualizations based on prioritized business demand
Collaborate with external vendors on data and reporting related development topics
2. Use of Tools and Technology
Manage Data Warehouse Automation tools such as TimeXtender.
Work with modern programming languages such as SQL, Python (optional: Scala, R) and scripting tools.
Develop reports and dashboards with Qlik Sense and NPrinting
Integrate cloud-native technologies such as Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, AWS Glue, or Google BigQuery.
3. Data Governance and Compliance
Implement data governance guidelines and policies, including data lineage, metadata management, data stewardship, and access control.
Ensure compliance with regulations such as GDPR and ISO 27001.
Collaborate with data owners, data stewards, data analysts, compliance officers, and security specialists to safeguard data security, quality, and integrity.
4. Quality Assurance and Monitoring
Set up data quality controls and automated validation for completeness, consistency, timeliness, and accuracy.
Monitor the performance of data pipelines and workloads; optimize queries and storage structures.
Work with application engineers to resolve data and reporting issues/incidents.
5. Collaboration and Advisory
Consult with business and data analysts, data stewards, and end users regarding information needs and data possibilities.
Translate functional requirements into technical solutions.
Advise on technological data innovations and data architecture design.
Co-develop solutions in collaboration with external vendors
Who are we looking for?
Knowledge, Competencies, and Skills
Bachelor’s or Master’s level thinking and relevant education in data, computer science, or a related field.
Proven experience in a similar position, 2 – 3 years working with data as data analyst or data engineer or similar role.
Analytical skills – able to understand complex data flows and structures.
Problem-solving mindset – able to quickly, systematically, and effectively address data and performance issues.
Collaboration – able to work across IT, business, and data stakeholders.

Proficient in English, and willingness to work with Dutch Data.
