About the Role:

As an Ultrasound Technician at UAB Medical West, you will play a crucial role in the diagnostic imaging process, utilizing advanced ultrasound technology to assist in patient care. Your primary responsibility will be to perform high-quality ultrasound examinations, ensuring accurate imaging for physicians to diagnose and treat various medical conditions. You will collaborate closely with healthcare professionals to interpret ultrasound results and provide essential information for patient management. Additionally, you will maintain and operate ultrasound equipment, ensuring it is in optimal working condition to deliver precise imaging. Ultimately, your expertise will contribute significantly to enhancing patient outcomes and supporting the overall mission of providing exceptional healthcare services.

Shift:

3-12-hour shifts

8:00 a.m. - 8:30 p.m. Minimum Qualifications:

Graduate of a Sonography or Radiologic Technology program.

Registry in good standing or Registry eligible by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). If the registry is eligible, you must pass the registry within two years of employment

Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI). If the registry is eligible, you must pass the registry within one year of employment.

BLS certification or must obtain within 30 days of hire date. Preferred Qualifications:

Current certification from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or equivalent.

Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Experience in a clinical setting performing ultrasound examinations. Responsibilities:

Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations on patients as per physician orders.

Prepare and position patients for ultrasound procedures, ensuring their comfort and safety.

Operate ultrasound equipment and adjust settings to obtain optimal images.

Document and maintain accurate records of ultrasound procedures and findings.

Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to discuss imaging results and assist in patient care planning.

Completes quality control checks on instrumentation and periodically reviews completed cases for quality assurance.

Skills:

The required skills for this position include proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment and a strong understanding of human anatomy and physiology, which are essential for obtaining accurate images. Attention to detail is crucial, as you will need to ensure that all images meet the necessary quality standards for diagnostic purposes. Strong communication skills will be utilized daily when interacting with patients to explain procedures and alleviate any concerns they may have. Additionally, teamwork is vital, as you will collaborate with physicians and other healthcare staff to interpret results and contribute to patient care decisions. Preferred skills, such as advanced knowledge of ultrasound techniques and experience with specialized ultrasound procedures, will enhance your ability to provide comprehensive imaging services.
