Job Description
Our client is seeking a Junior Mainframe Specialist to support a federal client in Dublin, OH. This is a hybrid work environment with consideration for remote employees. Qualified candidates must be eligible for Public Trust (U.S. citizenship required)
Analyze, document, and map legacy code written in Assembler, FOCUS, REXX, COBOL, and JCL
Capture business rules and data flows for modernization initiatives
Support requirements workshops, translating functional needs into user stories and technical tasks
Develop and unit test low complexity code fixes and enhancements under senior guidance
Contribute to API / web service wrappers that expose mainframe functionality
Estimate effort during sprint planning and update task status in Jira
Participate in daily stand ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
Maintain diagrams, knowledge bases, and SharePoint repositories
Basic Qualifications:
0–2 years professional programming experience OR relevant internship / academic projects
Coursework or exposure to at least one mainframe language (Assembler, COBOL, REXX, FOCUS, or JCL)
Familiarity with version control, testing fundamentals, and SDLC concepts
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills
Eligible for Public Trust (U.S. citizenship required)
Preferred Qualifications:
Lab or project experience with z/OS, TSO/ISPF, or job schedulers (e.g., Control M)
Exposure to APIs, web services, or microservices integration
Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, MS Project, Visio, Excel, and SharePoint
Knowledge of Agile, Scrum, Kanban, or hybrid delivery modelsEducation:
Bachelor’s in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent experience
