Who We're Looking For
You're a WordPress designer/developer who can confidently take a site from concept to launch AND who's excited about mentoring the next generation of tech talent. You know how to work with page builders (like Elementor or Divi), customize themes, tweak layouts, troubleshoot bugs, and make things look and feel right for the user.
Maybe you haven't had the perfect job titlebut you've done the work. More importantly, you see the value in sharing knowledge and helping others grow.
You want to use your skills for something bigger. You want to lead by example, build community, and create opportunities for emerging talent while building real things for real people doing real good. You're ready to learn, grow, make an impact, AND help others do the same.
What You'll Do
Core WordPress Work:
Design accessible, user-friendly websites for mission-driven organizations
Build and customize WordPress sites using themes, page builders, and light coding (HTML/CSS, some JavaScript)
Help bring ideas to life through prototypes, mockups, and functional websites
Collaborate with developers, designers, and changemakers
Intern Program Leadership:
Actively mentor a team of 2-4 interns who will work directly with you on projects
Delegate appropriate tasks to interns while ensuring quality standards are met
Provide regular feedback, guidance, and career development support to help each intern reach their potential
Balance project delivery with teaching moments, helping interns understand not just what to do, but why and how
Foster an inclusive team environment where interns feel supported to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow
Professional Growth:
Learn new tools and techniques with mentorship and support from senior experts in the field
Develop leadership and project management skills through intern team coordination
What You Bring
You don't need a degree. You do need:
Technical Skills:
Real WordPress experience you've built and customized full sites
Solid design sense you understand layout, color, usability, and accessibility
Comfort with tools like Elementor, Divi, Figma, Adobe XD, or similar
Working knowledge of HTML and CSS (JavaScript is a bonus)
Problem-solving instincts if something breaks, you figure it out
A portfolio or sample work that shows what you've done (personal projects, freelance, volunteer work, etc.)
Leadership & Mentorship Qualities:
Patience and enthusiasm for teaching you enjoy explaining concepts and helping others learn
Strong communication skills you can break down complex ideas into digestible steps
Experience collaborating with or leading others (formal or informal leadership counts)
Emotional intelligence you can provide constructive feedback and support team members through challenges
Organizational skills you can manage multiple projects while ensuring your intern team stays on track
On-site presence you are based here in the Grand Rapids area, and can be present to work alongside our interns
Bonus points if you've worked with nonprofits, community orgs, accessibility guidelines, or have previous mentoring/teaching experience. But most important: you're dedicated, you take initiative, you're excited to grow, AND you're passionate about helping others succeed.
