Serves as staff attorney by drafting contracts, grant agreements, Request for Proposals, and Request for Grant Applications, and other documents (i.e.

motions, pleadings, memoranda, and leases) for agency staff; provides legal advice and consultation to agency on contracts, IT contracts, grants, and data shares, federal and state funding sources; researches variety of legal issues including most complex legal concerns and assists in resolution, negotiation, settlement and/or litigation of legal matters, prepares written decision containing findings of fact and conclusions of law (i.e., contracts, grants, and procurement matters). Conducts legal research of case and statutory law, constitutions, state and/or federal rules, opinions and/or orders; prepares reports and maintains records; prepares transcripts for appellate review.

Reviews agency programs and policies for legal implications and/or drafts new policies; reviews and/or drafts legislation and/or administrative rules; drafts advisory opinions for boards, commissions or other governmental officials; monitors work of clerical staff.

Provides legal advice to and responds to inquiries from state and/or county agency administrators, vendors, and grantees, general public, legislators and/or government officials; attends meetings with attorneys and/or in-house counsel.

Pay Information Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary will be step 1 of the salary range associated with this position.

New hires advance to the next step in the range after 6 months and annually thereafter.

Based on collective bargaining and legislative activity, there may be cost of living increases awarded annually.

Additional longevity supplements begin after 5 years.
