Senior Accountant - 12-Month Contract
Location: Suffern, NY (Full-time, onsite)
Duration: 12 months
Employment Type: W2 Contract via Staffing Agency
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to maintain financial books and records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. This role involves preparing financial statements, supervising staff accountants, and supporting month-end close processes while ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in a healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare, review, and analyze multiple monthly and annual financial statements while participating in month-end close review meetings within preset timeframes
General Ledger Management: Maintain and ensure integrity of all general ledger accounts including joint ventures and balance sheet reconciliations
Staff Supervision: Supervise day-to-day activities and approve all work papers completed by Staff Accountants
Journal Entry Processing: Book monthly journal entries including recurring and non-routine entries, accruals, and prepaid analysis
Audit Support: Act as liaison with external audit firms and provide requested documentation for year-end audits, pension audits, grant audits, and compliance filings
Budget Analysis: Analyze monthly expense and FTE budget variances and assist in annual budget preparation and reporting
Asset Management: Monitor capital leases and debt obligations while maintaining Property, Plant & Equipment schedules and depreciation calculations
Compliance Reporting: Prepare internal and external reports including financial surveys, IRS forms, and tax return supporting schedules (990's, 1120's, CHAR500's)
Cash Management: Reconcile daily cash receipts and disbursements with General Ledger verification and prepare weekly cash flow reports
Process Improvement: Recommend and develop processes for streamlining financial operations and maintaining key financial system interfaces
Cross-Department Coordination: Maintain effective communication between departments to address finance-related issues
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required (Master's degree/MBA preferred)
3-5 years of accounting experience in healthcare setting required
CPA certification preferred
Strong financial analysis skills with ability to prioritize and multitask effectively
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Advanced computer skills in MS Excel, Access, and Outlook
Experience with healthcare financial systems (Infor, Lawson, Kronos, Cerner EMR, Patient Accounting, Strata) preferred
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Experience with audit processes and external auditor coordination
Ability to work independently with limited supervision
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial data management
Experience with budget preparation and variance analysis
Note: Candidates must be local to the Tri-State area and available for W2 employment. This role requires badging in/out of facility and adherence to client work policies.
