Research Senior Technician - Neuroscience

The lab of Dr. Sabhya Rana, in the Department of Neuroscience, seeks a highly motivated Research Technician 3 who will participate in the planning, design, execution, and management of research projects in the Rana Lab. Our lab studies neural circuits that control breathing and how respiratory function is impacted in disease and injury. We are also developing therapeutic strategies (non-invasive spinal stimulation, pharmacological targets) to improve respiratory motor function in spinal cord injury models.

Research Senior Technician is expected to assist and support scientific investigation to study neural control of breathing in the context of disease and injury as directed in the Department of Neuroscience; independently conducts assigned experiments; performs a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques and procedures including tissue sectioning, immunohistochemistry, PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures and Northern and Western analysis; sorts and processes tissue and blood samples; tests and evaluates current procedures; performs routine procedures on lab animals; assists with rodent surgical procedures and animal care; records, consolidates and assists with analysis of research results; assists in evaluating validity of data obtained from experimental procedures; summarizes data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepares research progress reports; assists principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts; conducts library research on requested topics through researching current literature; oversees and maintains accurate records of laboratory activities; assists with training of junior research staff, and undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation; sets up and operates laboratory equipment; monitors research supply, including specimens, inventory and initiates procurement requests as needed.

Minimum Education Required

Bachelor's Level Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required; 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree, or 0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required.
