Verisign is seeking a Principal - Infrastructure Architect to join our architecture organization. This is a senior technical position with high visibility and cross-functional responsibility. Successful applicants must demonstrate superior interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, negotiation, and prioritization skills.
In this role, you will work directly with multiple functional engineering and security teams, developing solutions for capacity planning, OKRs (objective and key results), KPIs (key performance indicators), and other data modeling. Your responsibilities would include engaging with stakeholders to review their systems, prioritizing which systems would benefit the most from comprehensive reviews, performing research and lab testing, reviewing iterations with owning teams to ensure alignment, collaborating with other architects on future changes, and presenting outputs to leadership.
Responsibilities
Authoring capacity strategy documentation for critical on-premise and cloud systems
Consulting with leadership to create and implement measurable OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) for infrastructure teams
Design, implement, measure, and make recommendations from KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and identifying trends and forecasting
Data modeling and trending in support of organization initiatives
Producing capacity metrics, trends, and forecasts for enterprise systems
Providing detailed analysis and explanation of data to senior leadership
Constructing a data driven approach to budget planning using metrics and KPIs
Finding opportunities for process improvement and automation to lower operational risks and cost
Adhering to corporate security standards and contributing to associated infrastructure standards
Engaging in the prototyping and testing of new capacity architectures and solutions
Performing research and authoring business cases as the foundation for executive decisions
Engaging with vendors and contributing to contracts and renewals
Consulting on plans for life-cycle management and equipment refresh
Reviewing technical design documents and escalating any non-compliance with standards
Collaborating with Infrastructure, Security, and other Architecture teams
Gathering requirements and producing clear choice documentation
Collecting customer feedback and incorporating into architectures
Identifying technical debt and contributing to solutions to modernize
Presenting at open houses and internal events
Participating in recruiting, mentoring, and teaching opportunities, sharing knowledge, and developing others Qualifications
Required:
Bachelors' degree in Computer Science or Engineering required, or equivalent work experience
15+ years of experience in architecture, infrastructure, capacity planning, engineering, or other related areas
Excellent communications and influencing skills, experienced at peer level and 2-3 level up communications
Comfortable presenting data driven recommendations to senior leadership, including the potential risks and benefits
Effective collaborator, able to work with teams of people toward company goals
Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities, experienced with driving issues to resolution
Bringing deep technical knowledge of capacity solutions and tooling
Experience with crafting and measuring OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)
Self-motivated and driven to produce high quality product
Iterative thinking, delivering incremental tangible implementations and designs which others can leverage
Highly adaptable, able to juggle multiple priorities
Proven ability to quickly earn the trust of sponsors and key stakeholders and execute with limited information
Proven ability to mentor and elevate knowledge of others
Familiarity with enterprise tools such as Service Now, Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, GitHub, and PowerPoint Preferred:
20+ years of experience in engineering or consulting roles
5+ years of experience with private and public cloud
Security or cloud certifications such as AWS, Google Cloud, CISSP, or similar
Software engineering experience with products such as Kubernetes, Jenkins, VMware, Docker, or Infrastructure and Orchestration tools
Experience with capacity planning tools such as Prometheus, Chronos, Influx, Grafhana, Telegraf, or Tableau
Experience with enterprise storage tools such as Host Power Tools, Infinimetrics, Purity, Pure1, Navisphere, and Dell Storage Manager
This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a hybrid work schedule.
The pay range is $180,700 - $244,500.
The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
