Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable Pawnbroker to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in the pawn industry, demonstrating expertise in appraising a wide range of items, conducting transactions, and building strong customer relationships. This role requires a keen eye for value, strong negotiation skills, and an in-depth understanding of relevant regulations.
Responsibilities:
● Accurately appraise a diverse array of items for pawn loans and outright purchases, including but not limited to jewelry, electronics, tools, musical instruments, collectibles, and firearms (if applicable and licensed).
● Negotiate fair and competitive loan amounts and purchase prices with customers. ● Process pawn transactions, buys, and sales efficiently and accurately, adhering to all company policies and procedures.
● Maintain accurate records of all transactions, including customer information, item descriptions, and financial details, in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
● Educate customers on the pawn process, loan terms, and store policies. ● Provide exceptional customer service, building rapport and trust with clients to encourage repeat business.
● Identify and authenticate high-value items, detecting counterfeit goods. ● Manage inventory, ensuring proper storage, display, and security of merchandise. ● Assist with store opening and closing procedures, including cash handling and balancing registers.
● Monitor market trends and pricing for various goods to ensure competitive appraisals. ● Train and mentor less experienced team members as needed.
● Maintain a clean, organized, and secure showroom and back-office area. ● Adhere to all safety and security protocols to protect company assets and customer property.
Qualifications:
● Minimum of 5 years of direct experience as a Pawnbroker in a retail pawn shop environment.
● Demonstrated expertise in appraising a broad range of merchandise, including precious metals, gemstones, luxury watches, firearms (if applicable), electronics, and other high-value items.
● Strong knowledge of current market values and trends for various pawnable goods. ● Excellent negotiation and sales skills with a customer-centric approach. ● Proficiency in pawn software systems and point-of-sale (POS) systems. ● Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing pawn transactions.
● Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse clientele.
● High level of integrity, honesty, and ethical conduct.
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. ● Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
● Ability to lift and move various items as needed.
● High school diploma or equivalent; further education or specialized certifications (e.g., GIA, certified appraiser) is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Bilingual (English/Spanish or other relevant language).
● Experience with advanced appraisal tools and techniques.
