What You'll Do:
Ohio Department of Public Safety - Director's Office/Law Enforcement Initiatives (LESO Program)
Report in location: 1970 West Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43223
Work hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm
Acts for administrator & provides program direction by relieving superior of non-routine administrative duties related to Law Enforcement Initiatives (LEI) & the Law Enforcement Support Office (LESO) Program:
Independently answers complex &/or confidential correspondence & inquiries pertaining to LEI &/or LESO initiatives & programs;
Serves as liaison between administrator & public/private partners; Provides program & policy information to law enforcement entities, government officials &/or the general public;
Serves as the LESO Small Arms Specialist & point of contact for Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) & the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) concerning all small arms issues;
Processes small arms & general property turn-in &/or transfer requests; Assists LEAs with annual inventory requirements; Ensures records are updated & maintained;
Assists in the notification & processing of missing, lost, or stolen small arms & general property; Makes recommendations for corrective action plans;
Provides small arms security information to LEAs & conducts support visits;
Formulates & implements program policy & operational procedures; Researches, collects, &/or evaluates data on program areas in order to update policies, procedures, regulations &/or directives; Provides technical advice to aid administrator in decision making;
Represents administrator at meetings & conferences; Facilitates & coordinates conference calls, meetings & communications with internal &/or external customers;
Assists the Drug Resilience Education Awareness Mentorship (DREAM) program manager with administrative tasks related to the program to include maintaining & updating the website, attending meetings, presentations, & conferences, as well as researching, writing, & reviewing scripts;
Assists state coordinator with administering all aspects of the LESO 1033 program as needed; Maintains LESO participating agency files; Reviews & processes applications for participation;
Assists compliance specialist with program compliance review follow-up;
Assists with the coordination of presentations & trainings for external partners such as courts, law enforcement agencies & other relevant groups;
Provides support to LEI staff & management (e.g., maintains office calendar, makes travel arrangements, schedules meetings, transcribes & disseminates meeting minutes, etc.);
Gathers & prepares confidential reports & correspondence utilizing a personal computer; Maintains confidential files;
Greets & directs visitors; Manages sensitive phone calls & routes incoming calls to appropriate section;
Receives, opens, logs, & distributes incoming mail;
Assists Administrative Professional staff within the ODPS Director's Office;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
36 mos. trg. or 36 mos. exp. in business administration, management science or public administration. If assigned to operate vehicles regulated by Section 4506.01 of Revised Code, applicants must also have valid commercial driver's license.
-Or completion of undergraduate core program in business administration, management science or public administration; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in supervisory, administrative &/or managerial position which involved limited research & public contact. If assigned to operate vehicles regulated by Section 4506.01 of Revised Code, applicants must also have valid commercial driver's license.
-Or completion of undergraduate core program in academic field commensurate with program area to be assigned per approved Position Description on file; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in supervisory, administrative, managerial &/or staff position which involved limited research & public contact. If assigned to operate vehicles regulated by Section 4506.01 of Revised Code, applicants must also have valid commercial driver's license.

Please Note Assigned Program Area: Completion of an undergraduate core program in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Public Safety, Business or Public Administration or related field.
