Fall Semester Law Student Externship ABOUT US The Center for Industry Self-Regulation (CISR), a 501(c)(3) non-profit established by BBB National Programs, leverages the power of self-regulation—a form of soft law—to promote business accountability.

CISR is committed to research, education, and the development of initiatives that foster effective industry self-regulation.

CISR empowers forward-thinking business leaders to address emerging industry challenges, establish best practices, and engage in independent monitoring and enforcement.

By collaborating with responsible businesses, academic institutions, and regulatory partners, CISR advances trust and transparency within various industries.

Through commissioned research and strategic partnerships, CISR works to develop and promote fair, future-proof self-regulatory frameworks.

Additionally, CISR hosts the annual Soft Law Summit, bringing together experts to discuss the evolving landscape of self-regulation and dispute resolution.

POSITION OVERVIEW CISR is seeking a law student extern for the fall semester to support our mission through legal research, policy analysis, and content creation.

This externship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in industry self-regulation while contributing to meaningful projects that impact businesses and consumers alike.

RESPONSIBILITIESAnalyze commissioned research to extract key insights for educational materials, marketing, and social media content.Research public policy issues relevant to CISR’s mission and develop educational content for our website and social media platforms.Conduct legal and policy research on industry self-regulation and identify potential academic and research partners.Support CISR’s curriculum adoption initiative by identifying academic institutions interested in industry self-regulation coursework.Monitor current events and draft commentary on news items relevant to CISR’s work.Assist CISR program and project managers with research and gain valuable insights into self-regulatory frameworks.Participate in the planning and execution of CISR’s annual Soft Law Summit.Participate and observe programmatic activities including meetings with internal and external stakeholders, such as policy makers, academics, and self-regulation participants.Contribute to the development of new self-regulatory initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONSCurrently enrolled in a law school program.Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.Interest in industry self-regulation, administrative law, or business law.Ability to work independently and collaboratively.Experience with policy analysis or content creation is a plus.
