Job Description

Performs diagnostic Radiographic and CT procedures to include C-arm and is responsible for patient safety protocols. Functions as the first-line interface with patients in the successful accomplishment of their mammogram. Participates in CQI activities.

Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and the use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns, and extraneous radiation to patients.

Able to assess patient pain interfering with imaging procedure - makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

Responsible for the safe handling of equipment and film.

Positions and shields patients accordingly.

Processes digital images.

Practices medical and surgical asepsis.

Keeps procedure room clean and neat, and makes minor equipment adjustments as needed.

Assists in maintaining basic records and reports.

Interacts professionally with patients/family.

Knows facility policies and the functions of other departments.

Is acquainted with local fire and safety regulations.

Compiles and maintains quality assurance information for mammography by ACR, the State of Utah Department of Health Standards, the FDA, and the Department of Health and Human Services.

Provides care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient.

Regulatory Requirements

High school graduate; BS degree preferred.

Graduation from an AMA-approved school of Radiologic Technology: either college-affiliated or hospital-trained.

Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART) in radiography and certified/board-eligible in mammography.

Certified in the State of Utah to practice and administer radiation.

One year of Radiography experience is preferred.

Thorough understanding of anatomy, and positioning.
