**Job Title: Sorting / Lumber Grading Department Supervisor**

**Department: **Production -- Sorting & Grading

**Reports To: **Plant Manager

**Location: **Mississippi Laminators -- Shubuta, MS

**Position Summary:**

The Sorting / Lumber Grading Department Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the grading and sorting of lumber to meet APA specifications for laminated beams. This role ensures efficient daily production by maintaining consistent workflow, meeting daily board footage quotas, and managing departmental personnel. The Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring the quality, accuracy, and timeliness of lumber preparation for the lamination process.

**Key Responsibilities:**

- **Lumber Grading & Sorting:**

- - Grade lumber according to APA specifications for structural laminated beams.

- Oversee the proper sorting of graded lumber into designated categories or sections.

- Monitor grading accuracy and quality standards to ensure compliance with internal and APA regulations.

- Attain and maintain daily quota of board feet graded and sorted.

- **Production & Workflow Management:**

- - Ensure a steady and adequate flow of graded lumber to lamination lines to avoid production delays.

- Track inventory levels of graded and sorted lumber and make adjustments as necessary.

- Collaborate with Production Manager to coordinate production needs and resolve bottlenecks.

- **Team Supervision:**

- - Supervise all employees in the Sorting / Grading Department.

- Maintain accurate attendance records and monitor timekeeping.

- Schedule employee breaks and daily assignments to ensure coverage and productivity.

- Serve as the first point of contact for employee concerns, minor discipline, and support.

- Provide on-the-job training and ensure safety procedures are followed.

**Qualifications:**

- High school diploma or GED required; additional vocational or technical training preferred.

- Minimum 3 years of experience in lumber grading or wood products manufacturing.

- Lumber Grading experience preferred.

- Prior supervisory or leadership experience in a production environment.

- Ability to read and interpret grading rules, production schedules, and technical documents.

- Strong organizational and time management skills.

- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including standing for long periods and lifting lumber.

**Work Environment & Physical Requirements:**

- Industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, noise, and fluctuating temperatures.

- Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs regularly.

- Must be able to work flexible hours and occasional overtime based on production needs.
