Job Summary

The VP, Controller will function as the key resource for and owner of accounting and internal controls over financial reporting for their assigned Operating Companies. The Controller will serve as a key business partner and executive leader for their Operating Companies, driving the company’s financial reporting processes, ensuring that financial filings are issued timely and accurately, and overseeing the execution of company audits. This will require working cross-functionally with multiple business unit management teams to ensure needed information is obtained, verified and accurately communicated in the Company’s filings. The Controller will also be responsible for all Regulatory Accounting and advice for their operating companies, partnering heavily with the OpCo President on their strategic priorities. It is expected this role would form part of the OpCo Leadership teams. The Controller will oversee several functions, having direct responsibility for 20+ professionals.

Job Description

What You'll Do:

Establishing an effective and efficient accounting function with an openness, transparency and accountability that continuously improves its processes and controls.

Creating and updating accounting policies and procedures

Providing accounting and financial advice and analytical support in connection with regulatory strategy, outcomes and other business ventures

Ensuring timely and accurate quarterly and annual SEC reporting, including the 10Q and 10K.

Maintaining and operating effective systems, controls and policies to ensure the integrity of financial data and processes in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and GAAP requirements.

Managing the monthly and quarterly consolidation and internal financial reporting processes as well as timely and accurate analysis of financial results and financial trends for their Operating Company.

Effectively leading and supervising accounting personnel, ensuring optimal performance through leadership, training and mentoring.

Recruiting and nurturing a forward-thinking and technically proficient accounting and finance staff, ensuring strong succession planning is in place through active recruitment and providing development opportunities to staff.

Establishing and maintaining effective business relations with outside auditors and regulators.

What We're Looking For:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics or other related fields.

Master's degree is preferred.

CPA or equivalent is required.

Experience:

12 years of accounting or finance experience.

5 years in leadership experience leading a team and projects.

Other Must Haves:

Open to travel to AEP locations.

Utility experience is preferred.

Regulatory experience is preferred.

Where You'll Work:

On-Site in the Columbus, OH, Austin, TX, Corpus Christi, TX, Shreveport, LA, or Tulsa, OK locations

Compensation Range:

$215,038.00-279,548.00 USD
