40% Performs all aspects of tissue prosection of biopsy and regular surgical cases; accurately identifies tissue, tissue containers and requisitions for proper case evaluation; uses dictation equipment to create specimen gross descriptions; follows templates for standardized approach to tissue prosection; uses pathology information system to electronically record all case entries; observes all safety rules and regulations for biohazard level 2 laboratory; takes pictures of interesting specimens as specified in the grossing templates for research, clinical and educational purposes
25% Conducts intraoperative consultation responsibilities to include frozen sections, lymphoma workups, preparing breast specimens for fixation and working with surgeons to grossly assess margins and obtain appropriate orientation of complex specimens; maintains necessary skill to safely and effectively operate cryostat equipment; prepares and stains frozen section slides; prepares specimens for flow cytometry, electron microscopy and other tests; provides assistance with procurement of tissue for research; utilizes the virtual microscope for telepathology cases
20% Provides didactic training to pathology residents and Pathologists Assistant students in gross dissection and intraoperative consultation responsibilities
5% Uses bone saw; performs decalcification of bone specimens; accessions surgical pathology specimens into pathology information system applying knowledge of appropriate billing guidelines; answers laboratory phone, assists couriers/hospital staff at specimen drop-off window and retrieves specimens for pick-up sites and ORs
5% Performs and/or assists in the performance of autopsies, including rotating weekend coverage and occasional weekday vacation/sick day coverage in the morgue
5% Participates in CME programs offered and mandated; participates in programs to continue individual growth and development; performs other special projects and duties as assigned
