About Munro Defense
Munro Defense delivers cutting-edge engineering consulting services to transform how complex defense and maritime platforms are designed, integrated, and built. Our expertise in Lean Design, DFM/DFA, and engineering benchmarking helps reduce lifecycle costs, streamline digital environments, and enable smarter, more agile decision-making across the design-to-production pipeline.
We are supporting a major digital engineering initiative focused on modernizing CAD/PLM tools and integration strategies across the U.S. maritime sector, with a specific emphasis on advancing digital thread enablement and cost-effective shipyard production.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced CAD/PLM Master Specialist to lead both the technical and strategic components of this effort. This role is ideal for someone who operates comfortably at the intersection of digital engineering, enterprise tool evaluation, and real-world production integration within a maritime or large-scale manufacturing environment.
You will conduct a detailed assessment of CAD and PLM solutions used across the shipbuilding industry, analyzing interoperability, scalability, and alignment with lean manufacturing and systems lifecycle goals. You'll also collaborate directly with major shipbuilders and government stakeholders to recommend and support the deployment of modern, integrated digital toolchains.
Key Responsibilities
Lead a full-scope CAD/PLM market study, evaluating tool capabilities, industry adoption trends, and alignment with complex maritime engineering practices
Assess commercial CAD/PLM platforms for compatibility with defense acquisition requirements and model-based engineering workflows
Collaborate with shipbuilders, engineering teams, and acquisition stakeholders to identify digital integration gaps and develop actionable strategies
Create benchmarking reports, evaluation matrices, and implementation roadmaps to guide enterprise-level CAD/PLM tool adoption
Provide architectural recommendations around PLM frameworks, data governance, and digital twin/digital thread concepts
Support testbed initiatives or pilot projects to validate CAD/PLM integration in real-world production and design environments
Partner with engineering and IT teams to ensure tools support DFM/DFA, lean product development, and full lifecycle cost-efficiency Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
5-10+ years of experience working with CAD/PLM systems in large-scale engineering or manufacturing programs
Deep technical knowledge of platforms such as Siemens Teamcenter, PTC Windchill, Dassault ENOVIA, NX, CATIA, Creo, or equivalent
Proven track record conducting tool benchmarking, system evaluations, or enterprise integration efforts in defense, aerospace, shipbuilding, or heavy industry
Strong ability to bridge technical requirements with strategic business needs and present findings to senior stakeholders
Familiarity with shipyard operations, digital manufacturing methods, or acquisition program requirements
U.S. citizenship required; must hold or be eligible for a DoD clearance Preferred Experience
Experience integrating CAD/PLM systems into regulated or defense-aligned production environments
Familiarity with military digital engineering standards (e.g., MIL-STD-31000B) or government-led digital transformation initiatives
Background in systems engineering, configuration/data management, or lifecycle integration programs
Prior collaboration with shipyards, integrators, or program offices on digital toolchain modernization Benefits Overview:
Competitive compensation and benefits
Paid time off including vacation days and holidays
Healthcare, dental, vision, and life insurance plans
