Description:

The role of a I/E Engineer is to provide technical support to troubleshoot and solve problems impacting equipment reliability, to identify opportunities and execute plans to improve equipment performance, and to manage responsibilities with the maintenance, design, installation and commissioning of Instrument, Analyzer and Electrical equipment throughout the site. Furthermore, when requested, the I/E engineer is responsible for providing technical direction to the Site Instrument technicians and/or contract Electricians on I/E equipment issues and repair.

Qualifications:

B.S. in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

3-5 years I&E experience in a industry Duties & Responsibilities:

Monitor and evaluate Instrumentation operational performance, work process, and departmental developments which relate to Instrumentation to identify improvement opportunities. Including but not limited to: equipment standards, incorporating new technology, specifications, and equipment replacements.

Develop, track, and report on Instrument reliability Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and metrics.

From KPI's develop and lead Instrument reliability projects including scope development, planning, coordinating, budgeting, field construction, documentation updates, and commissioning.

Provide primary technical support on Instrument emergencies to resolve high impact issues with a sense of urgency and thoroughness.

Assist in the development and maintenance of core specifications, department procedures, departmental work processes, and required codes and standards where applicable.

Provide technical support in the development of job plans for Instruments and Instrumented systems repairs/PM's.

Perform RCA on critical equipment failures and provide recommendations for rectification.

Technical input and support of the Process Safety Management of critical Instruments and SIS systems.

Proactively perform Instrumentation lifecycle assessments to identify obsolete equipment and recommend suitable replacements.

Demonstrate continuous improvement by providing input to site's I/E specification standards committee and adopting best practices on future installations.

Establish a culture of safety in working and in the execution of all aspects of the Department.

Represent the instrument department in project review meetings in projects with Instrumentation scopes.

Review for quality, completeness, effectiveness of Instrumentation PM program execution.

Ensure that there are warehouse spares for critical Instrument equipment and initiate store stock request forms for deficiencies.

Share job knowledge and experience with site Instrument technicians to develop, train, and enhance the skillset of all team members. In addition, reach out to OEM's to provide training on equipment used.

Actively participate in maintaining accurate documentation of Instrumentation systems information in the site's Computer Management Systems (SAP/Lotus Notes). Desired skills:

Ability to effectively work as an individual contributor and/or as part of a diverse team composed of Maintenance personnel, Operations personnel, Leadership, Contractors, and other Engineers.

Knowledge of process instrumentation and control valve, preventative maintenance requirements as well as emergency repair procedures.

Knowledge of BPCS, SIS and relay-based instrument systems, preventative maintenance requirements as well as emergency repair procedures.

Knowledge of Electrical Distribution systems and Electrical protective devices preventative maintenance requirements as well as emergency repair procedures.

Working knowledge and ability to research and implement NFPA, IEC, NETA and ISA standards.
