DESCRIPTION:
The position of Senior Database Administrator has the responsibility of maintaining, monitoring and managing the existing SQL Server operational infrastructure. This responsibility includes, but is not limited to, identifying, researching, and resolving technical problems, maintaining documentation on respective database systems, design and implementation of Database Management System (DBMS) and respective databases, database backup and recovery, and performance tuning.
Additionally, these activities and responsibilities include provisioning new Windows servers for use, DBMS patch management, storage design and recommendations, performing system upgrades, creating system documentation, daily administration, problem resolution relating to hardware, software, and network communication issues.
AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides SQL Server database administration in accordance with the respective OEM's best practices
Installation and configuration of SQL Server instances
Creates and maintains documentation of database systems, operational procedures, topology, and hardware / software inventory
Formulate and monitor policies, procedures, and standards related to database management
Propose and implement enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the database systems
Proactively monitor systems and alerts, using industry recognized tools to avert troublesome trends as they develop to ensure a stable production environment
Perform routine consistency checks against databases
Define access policies and enforce DB security
Maintains asset records as required by the organization's asset management process
Participates in the organization's change management process
Documents problem resolutions into the appropriate systems
Troubleshoots, analyzes and resolves system and user problems
Plans, organizes and coordinates work assignments and prioritizes workload
Rapidly deploys approved fixes to database management systems in response to newly identified stability and security threats
Participates in compliance activities that include log collection, analysis and reporting
Produce DBMS best practice oriented object naming conventions and ensure these conventions are disseminated to any object developer
Review database objects that have been approved for Production environment implementation prior to release
Work in conjunction with Application Development team on Product Delivery (Releases) into Production database environment QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent education / experience to successfully complete the assigned duties
7 years' experience administering a multi-server SQL Server environment
3 or more years' experience in technical lead role to IT projects
Experience in database design
Experience in supporting multi-instance SQL Server 2005 - 2014 environments
Knowledge and understanding of views, triggers, stored procedures, and query optimization
Knowledge of daily Windows server administration, including system stability, integrity, and troubleshooting
Knowledge and understanding of SQL execution plans
Knowledge of SSIS packages and ETL
Practical knowledge of T-SQL programming language
Theoretical understanding of SQL Server DBMS objects and components, such as Temp DBs, System DBs, File Groups, Recovery Models and Transaction Logs
Theoretical understanding of the SQL Memory architecture, such as Buffer Cache and Procedure Cache
Experience with building SQL Server maintenance plans
Experience in creating and scheduling SQL Server jobs
Experience in building and administering highly available database solutions in SQL Server using the following technologies (replication, mirroring, and clustering)
Experience with SQL Server's Profiler, Data Tuning Advisor (DTA), DBMail, Extended Events and Activity Monitor tools both native and third party.
Experience in executing backup and restorations of SQL Server databases using native and third party tools.
Ability to understand and comply with relevant department and/or corporate policies, procedures and guidelines as they pertain to company data and technology services
Proficiency with current versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint PREFERRED:
Knowledge and understanding of ITIL concepts such as Service Desk, Incident Management and Change Management
Manufacturing Industry experience
Basic knowledge and understanding of Microsoft programming languages such as Visual Basic and C#
Oracle 10g or 11g DBMS experience a strong plus
SAN and Storage experience
ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES:
