Head of Payroll
We are exclusively supporting a confidential search for a Head of Payroll to lead payroll operations across Germany and the wider EMEA region.
This is a fast-paced, senior leadership role within a dynamic international environment—ideal for a payroll expert who excels under pressure, enjoys managing and mentoring a team, and confidently navigates complex multi-jurisdictional payroll challenges.
What you’ll be doing:
Lead and oversee end-to-end payroll processing for Germany, while managing payroll activities across multiple EMEA countries
Manage, develop, and mentor a payroll team, ensuring operational excellence and continuous growth
Collaborate with HR, Finance, and external payroll providers to optimise and automate payroll processes
Own payroll reporting, reconciliations, audits, and resolve escalations efficiently
Drive payroll system improvements and automation projects
Manage complex payroll matters, including international assignments and Shadow Payrolls
Act as the main escalation point for payroll-related queries throughout the organisation
What you’ll bring:
5+ years payroll experience with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership role
In-depth expertise in German payroll is essential; experience across EMEA is advantageous
Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, reporting, and audit procedures
Experience with payroll systems (SAP preferred) and advanced Excel skills
Structured, detail-oriented, and calm under pressure
Fluent in German and English
