EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Operates, maintains, inspects, cleans and performs basic repairs on all equipment, pumps, motors and machinery related to the wastewater treatment processes and facility. Performs sampling and laboratory analysis as required for operational control. Conducts periodic and scheduled readings of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, and reads and interprets gauges, meters and control panels for treatment plant equipment and processes. Maintains accurate and precise documentation of treatment facility equipment and process functions, such as shift logs, and meter and gauge readings. Performs the work of a lower classification as required. Shall be responsible for process operation during a specific tour of duty. Performs simple electrical, plumbing, masonry and carpentry work as required. Performs all work in a safe, efficient manner. Performs other related work as assigned.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Upon completion of the probationary period will be subject to "on-call" duty, emergency calls or scheduled overtime work as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability and aptitude to understand and follow complex written and oral instructions. Knowledge of wastewater treatment principles and processes, and laboratory analysis. Knowledge of equipment and machinery operation and maintenance used in wastewater treatment facilities. Knowledge of local and State regulations concerning municipal wastewater treatment. Must be able to perform all physical requirements of the position, including working outside in inclement weather. Good ability to learn and apply new skills, and adapt to new methodologies and technology. Good ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, other municipal employees and the general public.
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or high school equivalency diploma. A State of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Class II Operator or higher certification; or a Class II Operator-in-Training or higher certification.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must maintain the Class II Operator certification in good standing.
Must possess and maintain a valid Connecticut motor vehicle operator's license.
